Firefox for Honeycomb UI shown off, inching closer to a tablet near you

Firefox on Honeycomb
The Mozilla team has been quietly toiling to bring Firefox to a mid-sized screen near you. It's already a perpetual favorite on the desktop and has made a bit of a splash on Android phones, now the group has Honeycomb tablets squarely in its crosshairs. It's still very much in the early stages of development but a few UI decisions have been made, including the choice to adhere pretty strictly to Android 3.0's minimalist appearance. In landscape mode tabs will be represented as a persistent thumbnail bar on the left, but in portrait they'll revert to the top with a more familiar appearance. The tabbed Awesome from the mobile version also returns. Check out the gallery below, as well as the source for more detail and more mockups.

Seeking Help For Your Marriage Relationship Before It's Too Late ...

Seeking marriage relationship help when your marriage is in strife is one of the best things you can do to help your marriage stay together. Many married couples typically struggle along with their marriage relationship difficulties and end up progressing to the stage where one of them ends up leaving.

When you weigh it all up, staying married often has many advantages, as well as its fair share of disadvantages, but on a whole, any couple that has been married (or been together) for at least five years, will begin having relationship issues. These can be caused or created through a variety of different causes or situations.

Over a reasonable period of time, people begin to change, they often develop new interests, and hobbies, they may gain in confidence and self esteem (or even lose it all) which may have been quite different when the marriage relationship started. They may become dissatisfied and bored with the familiarity of the marriage, and one of the biggies that often separates couples is getting into financial difficulties. As stated, there can be many real reasons as to why marriage relationship help should be sought before it?s too late.

]]>

Provided the marriage relationship was based on a solid foundation of love and respect to begin with, then more often than not the love doesn?t just disappear, and it can be entirely possible with some real commitment from (eventually) both people to work together to resolve the difficulties that caused the dissolving marriage in the first place.

Getting marriage relationship help is something that should be given attention before there is any decision by either partner to move out, or be booted out by the other.

Marriage relationship help is available through many different local support centres in your local community. Check with your local community Information Centre to see where a local support group, or counseling service can be found. There are also informative books available online that allow couples to help understand and reconcile their various differences. These often work well, when both people realize there are communication difficulties, and they both have a desire to resolve and improve the marriage relationship for the better.

Dharun Ravi Apology, Actions Criticized in Tyler Clementi Case

Dharun Ravi, 19, reportedly sent a text message in which he apologized to Tyler Clementi, his Rutgers University roommate, on September 22 of last year.

Clementi had taken his own life 14 minutes earlier.

Prosecutors think Ravi's apology - sent after he learned he would be disciplined by Rutgers for using a webcam to film Clementi's romantic encounter with a male friend - was just a cynical attempt to avoid punishment from the school.

Tyler Clementi and Dharun Ravi

"This was just one of many attempts by [the] defendant to dilute, cover up and explain, in other words to tamper with facts and to fabricate evidence that could be looked on as favorable to him," Middlesex County prosecutors said.

Ravi is charged with 15 offenses, including bias and intimidation. Prosecutors were responding to a motion filed by Ravi's attorney to dismiss the charges.

The prosecution cited instant-message chats, other text messages and emails sent by both Clementi and Ravi as more than enough reason to proceed.

In one email to his resident assistant, Clementi allegedly wrote: "I feel my privacy has been violated and I am extremely uncomfortable sharing a room with someone who would act in this wildly inappropriate manner."

In one chat, Dharun Ravi allegedly wrote:

"What if I catch him with a dude in my room. I'll have Jarvis [a talking computer software program he installed on his laptop] warn me if he tries to rape me at night."

Ravi is not charged with causing Clementi's death.

Prosecutors say Tyler Clementi's suicide is actually not relevant to their case. Still, Ravi's attorney wants documents about the suicide to be considered as possible evidence that Clementi may have been depressed prior to his death.

He killed himself by jumping off NYC's George Washington bridge in a tragedy that helped launch the campaign against bullying by many celebrities.

Although it is hard to get your foot in the door, the UK sports betting ...

Many of this year?s best UK sports betting questions did not come from the crowd, but from a slew of online website forums. Forums have become increasingly popular and server as watchdogs over the many UK sports betting industry providers. Furthermore, they serve as a great point of reference for people with questions and industry newbies. Some new UK sports betting product lines were also announced today, including the much anticipated release from Laplace Mcneese.com, a new leader in the industry. Most of the product announcements came during the ?Hot Products? session, although a few companies chose instead to present their new items in the commercial area. Corporate attendees were advised to bring at least 1000 UK sports betting products with them to resell, and despite this quota, many companies sold out on the very first day! The UK sports betting conference also boasted an outstanding product offering, with specialty vendors and sales personel from all major companies. Anna Sonterre supervised this segment of the conference, and stated ?People are buying this UK sports betting stuff like hotcakes?I?m thrilled about the success of these products!? ?Wow!!!?, said Miesse Laigle, a first time conference goer, ?I?m so thankful that many UK sports betting industry heavyweights took time out to come and talk to us. I?ve learned a lot of new things, found out industry news, and was able to network successfully with others who have jobs similar to mine.? ?I?m really impressed by the presentation Burrel Wicke did about up-and-coming UK sports betting businesses. The reasoning was solid, plenty of detail was provided, and some of the conclusions were very provocative,? raved Merilyn Mccargo, VP of Marketing for the Hutchin Stong Corporate body. Alayna Gilchrist, a well known UK sports betting marketer and former CEO of the Niedecken Shauf INC firm, had a great panel discussion on the legalities of UK sports betting trade abroad. Niedecken Shauf spoke briefly on current events, and then opened up the floor for Q & A from the audience. The local news media also took to the streets to get general public?s view about today?s events. Most reactions about the UK sports betting conference were positive, but a few people were not happy with the comotion created by evening party goers. ?I like the idea of having a UK sports betting conference in our town, but can?t sleep at night with all them creating a rucus,? said Calnan Tsuchiya, who lives adjacent to the main facilities. ?It wasn?t so bad last year, but last night I didn?t get to bed until 3 AM with all the shananigans going on!? Mayor Brenneis Jure, who spearheaded the original UK sports betting committee that brought the conference to town, spoke joyfully about the boom for local business: ?Restaraunts, Night Clubs, and the mall have all benefitted greatly. Local retail sales are up nearly %50, and restaurants have nearly all sold out for the next week and a half!?

Children Dance ? an alternative to team sports?

Many parents send their children to ballet lessons. Ballet is certainly one of the most popular children's dance classes. But some parents think dance is only useful if the child wants to be a pro. They represent the logic of their dance for children, but in sports. Here are some things you should consider.

1st The dance is a physical activity. It is not exactly the same as a sport. There is no ball to hit, jumping or kicking. No need to hit someone or run under the scorching sun. But dance is a physical activity. If you get exercise concerns about your child not to be. Taking a dance class exercise works so well.

The good news is that your child is less likely to hurt while running to get into a study. Professional dancers are not violated. Sprained ankle, sore knee and back pains are normal. But there's nothing like a linebacker by 300 pounds met.

2nd Dance is not winning anything. SomeTeam sports can put too much emphasis on winning. To pulverize some children in sports more and more the other team. The focus shifts from fun to win at any cost. In short, there are often play a lot of pressure on children to team sports.

This does not mean that there is pressure on the guys who dance. You print. But I'm normally not under as much pressure as the quarterback of the school or star basketball players. Allow your child to studyArt could help them, have more fun with their extracurricular activities. Not all schools have a second to win them a championship.

This article does not mean that team sports are bad. It is easy for you to know that there are alternatives to sport. The children's dance classes are a great alternative to playing team sports discouraged. Not so if the child has no desire to be an athlete. Dancing is good for them.

I certainlywas injured as a dancer and I've seen, injured dancers, then it is not without its own wounds. I think it really comes down to intent. In a sport like football, it was determined to beat each other. The intention may sometimes angry. In the dance, it is the intention to break new ground or himself to new heights in the art. Some of these things are certainly physically demanding, and yes, you could also get hurt. In both cases, it is really about how to train your child in the firstPlace.

Chris Weigant: King's Eloquence Goes Far Beyond "I Have A Dream"

[For those of you expecting your weekly dose of "Friday Talking Points" here, we apologize because this week's column has been pre-empted to bring you a very special message today, instead.]

A new statue of Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior is about to be dedicated in Washington; as a memorial to the man, his life's work, his commitment to non-violence, and the words he used to so eloquently define the struggle against injustice millions of Americans used to face every single day. The ceremony has been delayed, due to the threat of a hurricane hitting the D.C. area this weekend, but it was originally scheduled to mark the 48th anniversary of his most famous speech, given on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

This speech will forever be known as his "I Have A Dream" speech, and portions of it are as familiar to every American as F.D.R.'s "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself," J.F.K.'s "Ask not what your country can do for you," and even Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Government of the people, by the people, for the people" address on the hallowed battlefields of Gettysburg.

This is all as it should be. It's a powerful speech, after all. But Dr. King's legacy is a lot deeper than two or three heavily edited clips from one speech. By now, we've all seen video of the following lines, many times over:

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

. . .

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

. . .

This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning, "My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."

. . .

"Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

But how many of us would recognize the parts which are always left out? The media will likely play those clips over and over this weekend (and when the new monument is actually dedicated), but will any of them go beyond these well-known snippets of Dr. King's speech? Because while the best-known parts of "I Have A Dream" are now ubiquitous in popular culture, they have entered into a sort of hazy and comfortable familiarity, which allows everyone to view them without being challenged by the more pointed things Dr. King had to say that day. Here is the whole end of Dr. King's Lincoln Memorial speech, complete with very sharp words for the specific injustices against which Dr. King was fighting:

The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow cells. Some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.

Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair. I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. This is our hope. This is the faith with which I return to the South. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning, "My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring." And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania! Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado! Let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of California! But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia! Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee! Let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

It's a pretty safe bet that large portions of this will not be aired on television as America celebrates its newest monument in our nation's capital. Especially the bits about injustice, oppression, and police brutality -- all of which will likely end up on the cutting room floor. We'll all get to hear the parts we're already familiar with, once again, but we simply will not be challenged by the stark truth of what Dr. King faced, and what he struggled against his entire life. After all, it might tend to upset some viewers.

This is a shame. Both in the "Oh, that's a shame" sense, and in the literal meaning of the word "shame." Because bowdlerizing and sanitizing Dr. King means that generations of young Americans will only ever hear the gauzy, lofty, uplifting parts of what he was saying -- and they'll be denied the historical knowledge of the other things Dr. King said those many years ago.

For instance, how many of Barack Obama's young supporters are aware that the following line is from that same speech?

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now.

Dr. King spoke unhesitatingly of this "fierce urgency of now" many times in his speeches. He knew that every time he spoke, he did so in fear of his life. This was tragically made obvious when an assassin's bullet later cut him down. But this did not stop Dr. King from coming out against the Vietnam War, and railing against the same "conformist thought" that now pares his legacy down to one moving speech about a dream of a brighter future for children. Dr. King did not mince words on this subject, in another famous speech, as indeed he never did on anything he felt strongly about. After quoting the committee which had invited him to speak ("A time comes when silence is betrayal"), he went on to say:

The truth of these words is beyond doubt, but the mission to which they call us is a most difficult one. Even when pressed by the demands of inner truth, men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government's policy, especially in time of war. Nor does the human spirit move without great difficulty against all the apathy of conformist thought within one's own bosom and in the surrounding world. Moreover, when the issues at hand seem as perplexing as they often do in the case of this dreadful conflict, we are always on the verge of being mesmerized by uncertainty. But we must move on.

. . .

If we continue [the war], there will be no doubt in my mind and in the mind of the world that we have no honorable intentions in Vietnam. If we do not stop our war against the people of Vietnam immediately, the world will be left with no other alternative than to see this as some horrible, clumsy, and deadly game we have decided to play. The world now demands a maturity of America that we may not be able to achieve. It demands that we admit that we have been wrong from the beginning of our adventure in Vietnam, that we have been detrimental to the life of the Vietnamese people. The situation is one in which we must be ready to turn sharply from our present ways. In order to atone for our sins and errors in Vietnam, we should take the initiative in bringing a halt to this tragic war.

Dr. King spoke on many subjects, involving many issues from the intensely local to the moralities of the entire human race. Being an ordained man of God, he not only spoke, he preached. His prose soared, no matter what the occasion. But his main theme is perhaps best remembered in a speech he gave on loving your enemies. In it, he relates the following story:

I think I mentioned before that some time ago my brother and I were driving one evening to Chattanooga, Tennessee, from Atlanta. He was driving the car. And for some reason the drivers were very discourteous that night. They didn't dim their lights; hardly any driver that passed by dimmed his lights. And I remember very vividly, my brother A.D. looked over and in a tone of anger said: "I know what I'm going to do. The next car that comes along here and refuses to dim the lights, I'm going to fail to dim mine and pour them on in all of their power." And I looked at him right quick and said: "Oh no, don't do that. There'd be too much light on this highway, and it will end up in mutual destruction for all. Somebody got to have some sense on this highway."

Somebody must have sense enough to dim the lights, and that is the trouble, isn't it? That as all of the civilizations of the world move up the highway of history, so many civilizations, having looked at other civilizations that refused to dim the lights, and they decided to refuse to dim theirs. And Toynbee tells that out of the twenty-two civilizations that have risen up, all but about seven have found themselves in the junkheap of destruction. It is because civilizations fail to have sense enough to dim the lights. And if somebody doesn't have sense enough to turn on the dim and beautiful and powerful lights of love in this world, the whole of our civilization will be plunged into the abyss of destruction. And we will all end up destroyed because nobody had any sense on the highway of history. Somewhere somebody must have some sense. Men must see that force begets force, hate begets hate, toughness begets toughness. And it is all a descending spiral, ultimately ending in destruction for all and everybody. Somebody must have sense enough and morality enough to cut off the chain of hate and the chain of evil in the universe. And you do that by love.

It is somewhat fitting that the dedication of Dr. King's memorial has been postponed by a hurricane. Dr. King himself was a hurricane-force wind which blew through American society and ripped open a lot of things which should have been torn down long before. He spoke of the force of God, and he was a force for good his entire life. In his wake, he left not devastation but people rebuilding from a stronger and better foundation for the future.

Dr. King's monument is a literal interpretation of the faith he spoke of on the Lincoln Memorial's steps. We have now managed to "hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope" in his very likeness. But as you watch the images of the dedication ceremony, it would behoove you to go online and find the text of other speeches than just the most familiar one we're all used to seeing in those clips. If you read no other, look up his last address, which is so eerily prophetic that it too may even merit a tiny clip on television. He gave the speech in Memphis, just before he was shot. Dr. King was appearing in Memphis in support of sanitation workers who were struggling for a little dignity. But, after addressing the local issue, he ends this speech by talking about his own mortality -- how he was almost assassinated by a deranged individual with a knife, and how the plane he rode to Memphis on had to be thoroughly checked for explosives or sabotage. Dr. King ends with one of the most moving passages he's ever spoken:

And then I got into Memphis. And some began to say the threats, or talk about the threats that were out. What would happen to me from some of our sick white brothers?

Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop.

And I don't mind.

Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land!

As we all know, we're not there yet. We're a little closer than we were when Dr. King was taken from us, but we've still got quite a ways to go yet. For inspiration on the journey which still awaits us all, I strongly urge all Americans to seek out Dr. King's actual words -- the words you're not used to hearing over and over again. Take ten or fifteen minutes and read the text of one of his speeches. Watch video, or listen to audio of Dr. King speaking. It will be well worth the time it takes.

[Note: Check the official King monument dedication site for information on when the dedication will happen, and other information on the life of this extraordinary American.]

Barry Bonds' obstruction of justice conviction was upheld Friday by a federal judge, who denied the former baseball star's motion for a new trial or acquittal on the charge.

A day after hearing oral arguments, U.S. District Judge Susan Illston in San Francisco issued a 20-page order refusing to overturn the only unanimous decision reached by the jury in her courtroom last April 13.

Jurors failed to reach a verdict on three counts charging the seven-time NL MVP with making false statements to a grand jury in 2003 when he denied receiving steroids and human growth hormone from trainer Greg Anderson, and when he said he allowed only doctors to inject him. Bonds was convicted of giving an evasive, rambling reply when asked whether he received drugs that required a syringe.

"Viewed in the light most favorable to the government, the record supports a finding, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the question was material to the grand jury's investigation of BALCO and Greg Anderson for unlawfully distributing performance enhancing drugs, and that defendant endeavored to obstruct the grand jury by not answering it when it was first asked," Illston wrote. "The conviction can be upheld if (the) defendant endeavored to obstruct justice, even if he did not succeed."

Bonds is likely to appeal Illston's decision to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prosecutors have not yet said whether they plan to retry him on the three deadlocked counts. Josh Eaton, spokesman for U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag in San Francisco, declined comment on the decision.

"I haven't spoken to Barry yet and therefore won't have any reaction statement tonight," Bonds' lead lawyer, Allen Ruby, said in an email to The Associated Press.

Illston's ruling marked a victory for federal prosecutors, who have been involved in two cases this year against former baseball stars accused of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs. In a Washington, D.C., court room in July, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton ordered a mistrial in the case against Roger Clemens, saying prosecutors introduced evidence he had banned as prejudicial.

Bonds was among the biggest stars convicted as a result of an investigation into the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO) steroids ring, a probe headed by federal agent Jeff Novitzky. Novitzky also is at the forefront of a different grand jury investigation into whether seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong used drugs to get an illicit boost in his victories.

Following a 12-day trial and on the fourth day of deliberations, the Bonds jury unanimously voted that the slugger gave the grand jury an evasive answer under oath. Rather than say "yes" or "no" to the question about receiving drugs that required a syringe, Bonds responded, in part, "I became a celebrity child with a famous father."

Bonds' lawyers argued that the answer wasn't relevant to the grand jury, and that in any case he answered a question that was essentially the same later during that session.

Illston did not agree.

"(The) defendant repeatedly provided nonresponsive answers to questions about whether Anderson had ever provided him with injectables, resulting in the prosecuting attorneys asking clarifying question after clarifying question, and even once resulting in one prosecutor interrupting another who was about to move on to a new topic in order to clarify defendant's mixed responses," she wrote in her decision, issued late Friday night. "An evasive answer about an issue material to the grand jury is not necessarily rendered immaterial by the later provision of a direct answer, even if that direct answer is true."

Illston said Bonds' answer to questions later in his testimony did not make up for his initial evasion, especially because there he was asked about being injected by Anderson.

Illston did not address Bonds' lawyers argument that his conviction was barred by a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case, U.S. v. Bronston, that declared in a perjury case "a jury should not be permitted to engage in conjecture whether an unresponsive answer, true and complete on its face, was intended to mislead or divert."

Bonds has not been sentenced, with Illston preferring to first rule on the motions to throw out the verdict.

His conviction carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison, yet federal guidelines call for 15-21 months. For similar offenses in the BALCO steroids ring case, Illston sentenced cyclist Tammy Thomas to six months of home confinement and track coach Trevor Graham to one year of home confinement.

Jurors said their final votes were 8-4 to acquit Bonds of lying about steroids and 9-3 to acquit him on lying about HGH use. The panel voted 11-1 to convict him of lying when he denied receiving an injection from someone other than his doctor.

Now 47, Bonds holds baseball's season (73) and career (762) records for home runs. He testified before a grand jury that Anderson told him the substances he was giving Bonds were flaxseed oil and arthritic balm, and that Bonds didn't know they were designer steroids.

"Did Greg ever give you anything that required a syringe to inject yourself with?" Bonds was asked.

"That's what keeps our friendship," Bonds said in the part of his answer the government charged was a crime. "You know, I am sorry, but that ? you know, that ? I was a celebrity child, not just in baseball by my own instincts. I became a celebrity child with a famous father. I just don't get into other people's business because of my father's situation, you see."

The jury instructions said that for Bonds to be convicted, jurors had to find Bonds' answer "obstructed, influenced or impeded, or endeavored to obstruct, influence, or impede" the grand jury "by knowingly giving material testimony that was intentionally evasive, false or misleading."

Colon Cancer is the Third Most Commonly Diagnosed Cancer ? SEO ...

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world and is most common in developed countries. Colon cancer prognosis is very much dependent on the stage that the cancer is in when detected and treated.

Colon cancer is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Cancer is often a very sad and painful subject to talk about especially if you or someone you know has been affected by it. Colon cancer is also known as colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancers often start in the lining of the bowel and if left untreated can grow into the muscle. Most begin as a small growth on the bowel wall which is called a colorectal polyp. These mushroom-shaped growths are usually benign, but some can develop into serious cancer.

Symptoms include changes in bowel habits, lower gastrointestinal bleeding and blood in the stool.

The lifetime risk of developing colon cancer in the United States is about 7%. Factors that increase risk are age, family history of cancer, smoking and poor diet.

Colorectal cancer can take many years to develop and early detection of colorectal cancer greatly improves the chances of survival.

There are several different tests available for this screening which includes a digital rectal exam.

The doctor inserts a lubricated, gloved finger into the rectum to feel for abnormal areas. It only detects tumors large enough to be felt in the distal part of the rectum but is useful as an initial screening test.

Tests for blood in the stool are also useful.

A colonoscopy involves placing a lighted probe into the rectum and the entire colon to look for polyps and other abnormalities that may be caused by cancer. A colonoscopy has the advantage that if polyps are found during the procedure they can be removed immediately. Tissue can also be taken for biopsy to screen for cancer.

The best course of action is also prevention and regular screening. Lifestyle is important, eat healthy, get regular exercise and don?t smoke. Make regular visits to your doctor and get tested.

The information provided is for discussion purposes only and not to be used for diagnosis or treatment. A medical professional should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment.

Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine, the lower part of your digestive system. Rectal cancer is cancer of the last 6 inches of the colon. Together, they?re often referred to as colorectal cancers.

ORANGE, Calif. (AP) ? A 7-month-old baby boy who was tossed from the fourth floor of a hospital parking structure died Wednesday, the same day his mother made an initial court appearance on charges of attempted murder and felony child abuse, a police spokesman said.

The child died Wednesday morning at the University of California, Irvine, Medical Center and charges against the mother, Sonia Hermosillo, 31, will be upgraded to murder, said Sgt. Dan Adams, spokesman for the Orange Police Department.

Prosecutors allege that Hermosillo removed a helmet that her son wore for a medical condition before tossing him from the parking structure at Children's Hospital of Orange County late Monday. She then went back inside the hospital to validate her parking, senior deputy district attorney Scott Simmons said after Hermosillo's hearing.

Hermosillo's husband, Noe Medina, told The Orange County Register in an interview Tuesday that his wife had been hospitalized for postpartum depression in June after she said she didn't want their son, Noe Medina Jr., who was diagnosed with congenital muscular torticollis ? a twisting of the neck to one side.

The infant also wore a helmet to help correct his plagiocephaly, also known as flat-head syndrome, the Register reported.

"She didn't look at our son as normal," Medina said. "She didn't accept him. She didn't accept that he was like this."

Medina said the boy was receiving physical therapy twice a week and was showing signs of improvement.

Simmons, the prosecutor, said Hermosillo's behavior showed she intended to kill her son, regardless of her mental state.

"It's not like she's in a fetal position when the police arrived," he said. "She picks a specific location, drives to the top of the building (and) takes the helmet off. I'm sure she's depressed, the post-partum blues, I'm sure she had some of that."

"It's going to be up to a jury to decide if she had the wherewithal to inform the intent to kill."

Hermosillo made a brief court appearance Wednesday, but her arraignment was postponed until Sept. 16.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Joe Perez set bail at $1 million, but federal immigration officials have a no-bail hold to keep her in custody because she is in the U.S. illegally, said Jim Amormino, sheriff's spokesman.

Hermosillo is also on the medical ward, where she is being kept in a cell by herself and wearing a protective gown so she can't injure herself, he said.

The judge appointed a public defender for Hermosillo, but the attorney did not comment after the hearing.

Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney's office said prosecutors were not commenting further on the infant's medical conditions, or a motive in the case.

"We're not going to speculate at this point as to why she may have done it. I don't think there will ever be a satisfactory answer as to why a mother would do something like this to her child," she said.

Adams said a witness on the ground saw the baby falling just after 6 p.m. Monday and several people, including a doctor, called 911.

Surveillance video showed Hermosillo's tan Chevrolet Blazer sport utility vehicle with an empty child seat leaving the parking structure a short time later, the sergeant said. The license plate was traced to Hermosillo's home.

During the investigation, La Habra police notified detectives that Medina had reported his wife and their son missing, Adams said.

An Orange police officer driving past Children's Hospital at 10:15 p.m. spotted the Blazer driving on a street about 100 yards from the crime scene and Hermosillo was at the wheel, Adams said.

Court records in Orange County indicate Hermosillo has no major criminal record but pleaded guilty to four traffic violations in La Habra in 2008, including driving without a valid license and having no proof of insurance.

Homeschooling and the Issue of Socialization | Topics Info ...

Many families are choosing to homeschool their children and they are using many different approaches to do so. There are many misconceptions about homeschooling, in part because it has evolved over the years. Some proponents of homeschooling are quick to point out that the issue of socialization is a dead one. The healthy development of socialization skills has never really been an issue, they also believe. Researchers have been doing studies on this topic for many years. According to these studies, home schooled children generally have better developed socialization skills.

While in principle public education may be a desirable way to socialize kids, the reality has turned out to fall far short of this. Too many events have happened over the years involving violence in schools. Therefore it does seem that a healthy home and relationships between parents and children would almost certainly be an improvement. Indeed, homeschooling gives both the parent/teacher and the students more freedom to explore the world. Learning that?s done from reading or online can be supplemented by a greater diversity of trips and outings than schools are able to provide. What is also a very compelling point is to consider the usual effects of negative socialization that routinely occurs in public schools. The typical environment provided by education can inflict a great deal of emotional damage to a child. Often times a child has been subjected to so many negative socialization experiences that they are affected for very many years. The idea that being in a conventional school is crucial for children?s emotional health is a widespread myth that falls apart when we look at the reality. When a child is home schooled, he or she can more readily reach their true potential. The effect that can have is to encourage development of healthy esteem and confidence.

Socializing with peers of the same age can have negative aspects, as well, like distorting personal expression. Consider what typically happens in public schools to dispel doubts regarding this. Children want to be accepted and popular, for the most part. They do this primarily by trying to fit in. We all know about cliques and the tendency to gravitate toward others and form small groups. Even though this behavior is understandable, it can cost the individual their personal identity. Children can be socialized in a number of ways, and the kind provided by schools is not necessarily the most desirable kind. Clearly, while lifelong friendships can happen in institutional settings, there are serious negative effects always present. It?s ultimately up to each parent to decide how they think their child will get the best education and be socialized in the healthiest way. You may have good reasons to be either for or against home schooling for your own kids. One issue that all parents must come to terms with is where they think their children will be safest, as this has become a real concern in modern schools. This is something you really have to look at closely in order to ensure the safety of your children.

Many games by and large receive their originator from old rituals or traditions of earlier times, but in the situation of online slot games, it was a little different. First, they came many years after time-honored times and really, they were made simply to keep wives and female friends entertained while men gambled uninterrupted.

On line slot machines can be traced back to 1891. A slot-type machine that consisted of drums that held the pictures of fifty cards and was in line with the popular game of poker, was set up in bars within Brooklyn, New York city. Made by Sittman and Pitt Company, these slot machines were such an achievement, soon every club had one.

The first official three-reel slot machine with real money payouts, was developed by a German creator, Charles August Fey in 1895. Fey named it ?Liberty Bell?. It was such a hit, Fey made another. His 2nd was a collaboration with the Mills Novelty Company and it was branded ?Mills Liberty Bell?. Mills soon after, built another slot known as the ?Operator Bell?. It had been a light-weight variation of the original Bell machine.

It was just in 1901, that the first machinelike poker slot device was fashioned. Big Bertha as well as Super Big Bertha came later and they had been the first electromechanical machines advanced in the 1950?s

Finally, web-based slot machines brought in their very first visual appearance in the 1990?s following the traditional automatic slot machines made by Sircoma in the 1980?s. Web based
slot casinos took off, mainly after all they are easy to use, could be played in the privacy of their own personal home, they are exciting, and most importantly, a player can win lots of money.

Just how do on line slot machines operate? A normal online slot machine, like their traditional slot brothers, possess three reels that spin once the virtual lever is actually pulled. Each reel has 20 symbols or more. Once the reels stop, the pattern in that the symbols are displayed determines the victory of the gamer. Usually, if the 3 reels arrive at the same symbol, the player goes home with a fabulous jackpot, but there are other winning alternatives.

Many online slot games are robotic and the resulting symbols are controlled by computer chips. The machine is preprogrammed and the payout percentage is dependent upon the random number generator (RNG). When the virtual lever is actually pulled, the RNG goes in to action producing random stopping points for all three reels.

The RNG has the possibility to generate a billion combinations and is a proved method that keeps the internet slot game working properly. It decides the payout and is decidedly mathematically precise.

Utilizing the RNG system, casinos have invented two specialized types of slot machine games. They are called, the straight slot machines and the progressive slot machine games. Straight slots pay out predetermined amounts with each and every spin. Progressive slot machines allows for the jackpot to multiply with every single spin.

Online slot games have become intensely popular. They attract web based gamers and fans who just love gambling online or offline. Once a player gets used to them and pick up on a trusted spot to play, a player can have hrs of fun and hopefully win large jackpots!

BlackBerry Music to serve up 50 songs for $5 a month?

Well, it looks like BlackBerry's banking on another BBM to pull it out of the enterprise-only lurch, and this one should be like music to your ears. Earlier this week, we reported that RIM was readying a new music service, and now All Things D is giving us some juicy (unofficial) details on the tentatively titled BlackBerry Music. The publication says $5 a month will give users access to 50 songs that they can share with their BlackBerry-toting friends (also signed up for the service). What's more, it could be officially pumping the jams to the UK, US, and Canada as soon this fall, with other territories to follow in 2012. Rumor also has it that users won't be able to port the music to other devices, unless they happen to have a PlayBook handy. Somehow we suspect that last bit won't be what draws the youngster in.

Anne Hathaway knows you have your doubts about her, but she's ready to impress you with "One Day."

The actress is no stranger to adapting well-loved literature to the big screen, having starred in "The Princess Diaries" and "Brokeback Mountain." But having to speak in an English accent and co-helm a romance novel that fans were so protective of certainly put the pressure on when she was filming "One Day."

Fortunately, the response from fans has been positive so far. MTV News caught up with Hathaway and her co-star Jim Sturgess recently, and "The Dark Knight Rises" actress said that people have received her performance in the flick positively.

"I've had people come up to me who have seen it actually and they say, 'I didn't think you could pull it off.' And people feel inclined to tell me that they really had no faith in me whatsoever," she said with a laugh. "So far, it's ended with a, 'But you surprised me, and I really enjoyed your performance.' But I'm just waiting for that person to come up and say, 'Well I knew you couldn't do it.' "

She added that the pressure was amplified by the fact that when she and Sturgess were filming in London, Hathaway saw people all across the city reading the book. The cover of the novel's U.K. edition is orange, and Hathaway said it would freak her out to see "One Day" so prominently featured in every bookstore she walked into.

"At night, it kind of lights the streets of London," Sturgess joked.

People who want to walk into "One Day" spoiler-free might not be too psyched to hear that both Hathaway and Sturgess say they prefer "ill-fated, tear-inducing" romantic films as opposed to ones that end happily ever after. That news certainly doesn't bode well for the love story between their onscreen characters.

While Sturgess said he feels that way because he's "just cynical," Hathaway explained that she feels tragic romantic stories stay with a person longer.

"If something's happily ever after, yay, you're happy for them, but what else do you feel about it? When something rips your guts out, you're more inclined to remember it," she explained.
