3 Renewable-Energy Nanotech Projects to Watch

According to three studies published in the journal?Technology and Innovation ? Proceedings of the National Academy of Inventors, nanotechnology research being conducted in Florida could improve energy efficiency in several different applications.

One such project, which is being developed by researchers at the Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center at Florida Atlantic University, will attempt to use the energy in ocean waves and current, Phys.org reported. Through research and development of materials and marine current turbines, great advances in harnessing the ocean's kinetic energy can be made, according to researchers.

Another project, which is being developed by engineers from the University of South Florida's Clean Energy Resource Center, attempted to use ?rectenna? devices to convert waste heat into electrical energy. These devices capture thermal radiation, which oftentimes is an overlooked source of renewable energy, according to Phys.org. Rectennas, which are a combination of an antenna and a tunnel diode, could be more efficient than solar power if the technology is made to be more efficient.

Physicists from the University of South Florida are looking at ways to use nanotechnology in greenhouses to improve energy efficiency. For use in hydroponic agriculture, a new lighting device -- called a nanophosphor-based electroluminesence lighting device --?could be used to create precise wavelengths of light required for indoor photosynthesis, eliminating wasted energy and saving growers money.

More information on these and other research projects can be found at the Technology and Innovation journal.

Mays Millhouse likely to shine in The Ambassador Cars Midland St Leger Heat 1

Mays Millhouse has got a very good chance of winning The Ambassador Cars Midland St Leger Heat 1 at Hall Green in England on Thursday, November 29, 2012. He is a pretty decent performer and has gained a lot of experience over the past one year.

Overall, the skilful hound likes running in longer distance events because of his decent stamina. Therefore, he will be fancying his chances of a strong show in the 645 metres flat contest, scheduled to kick off at 21:09 GMT.

Things will not be easy for him, as there are some other quality runners attracted towards the Grade OR competition. They will all be giving their best shot in order to bag a cash prize of ?200 at the end of the day.

However, only one of them will be able to do so, and the bookies believe it is going to be Maireads Dandy. Therefore, he has been given the best price for a victory and it will not be easy for his opponents to prevent him from finishing on top of the table.

He will enter the competition with a starting price of 2 to 1 and the punters will definitely risk a lot of bets on him. Moreover, he has been slotted in trap number six, which will also provide him a chance of fighting for a victory.

Although, the starting position will not be much important, yet the D. Knight?s trained dog will be looking to be aggressive once the race begins. If he gains some early momentum, he will be in a position to pressurise his opponents towards the end.

Maireads Dandy finished as a runner up in his most recent Grade OR outing, which was an encouraging result for him. He was not given a decent starting price, but still managed to give a tough time to his rivals.

However, he will have to weather the storm from Mays Millhouse, who does not allow anyone else to dominate the proceedings. He has got more experience compared to his main rival and will be looking to make the most of it.

The G. Ballentine?s trained dog secured the third spot in his previous race in this class, which means that he is also carrying a decent momentum right now.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Easter Eggs Guide | Video Game Blog ...

In true Call Of Duty tradition, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 has got a good share of easter eggs: some are easy to miss, others don?t serve a real purpose while others activate a special music track or even let you play some arcade classics from the 80s.

Thor?s Hammer

There?s no real reason in including the hammer for the Norse Thunder God Thor in a game like Black Ops 2, except to show gamers the love developers have for that god, or probably just of the Marvel Comics character based on the ancient god.? The Mjolnir can be seen during the Celerium mission in single player campaign: after
the wingsuits are used for the first time, you?ll have to clear the area near the elevator. Once you?re done, go back to the ridge and there should be a small ravine: get down and enter the cave: the hammer is inside. As I said, there?s no real purpose in discovering this easter egg since the hammer can?t be used or moved, it?s just stuck there.

Basketball

This is one of those easter eggs that are hard to miss: during the Raid multiplayer map, there?s a large basketball court behind one of the houses and you can play basketball by shooting the three balls lined up across the hoop; you can even use the knife to play, making it even harder. Is there a reward in doing this? No, but hey, it?s basketball so it?s gotta be fun, right?

Zombies in Standoff

This one is quite a nice joke: in one of the second floor rooms in one of the houses in the Standoff map there?s a note stating that ?Zombies are coming?. Just a joke or an interesting way to say that more Zombie mode content may be coming? Either way the note is not too much out of place in this map, given its somewhat creepy atmosphere.

Retrogaming

Fancy playing some arcade classics? You?ll be able to do it while playing on the Nuketown 2025 multiplayer map: you need to shoot every mannequin head during the map. Once you?re done, go back to the screen in the center of the town with the kill count and you?ll get a chance to play Pitfall, H.E.R.O., Kaboom and River Raidm with your weapon getting replaced by a joystick. Controlling isn?t as precise as it originally was but still, it?s a nice trip back in time.

Musical Teddy Bears

This Easter Egg is found in both the Nuketown Zombie and in TranZit mode: you?ll have to activate three teddy bears scattered all over the place and once you?ll do, you?ll be able to keep killing zombies
while listening to a Skrillex song called Try It Out. In TranZit mode finding all the teddy bears may be more difficult so here are the precise locations: the first one can be found on the bench in the Bus Station, close to the starting point: the second is in the Farm, on the second floor; the third one is in Town, located near a pool table inside one of the buildings.

Earnings Preview: Tiffany to offer holiday clues

NEW YORK (AP) ? Jeweler Tiffany & Co. is scheduled to report its third-quarter earnings before the market opens Thursday, which should offer insight into early holiday spending amid economic challenges both here and abroad.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Analysts will be looking closely at what type of jewelry Tiffany's affluent customers are buying and whether they're scaling back even more since this past summer. The holiday quarter accounted for nearly a third of Tiffany's revenue last year.

Analysts will also want to know how shoppers are reacting to continued rising prices of baubles, given increasing costs of silver, gold and platinum.

The affluent had been spending more since the Great Recession officially ended in mid-2009, recovering faster than other people. But starting late last year, Tiffany's customers trimmed their spending on jewelry amid stock market volatility and growing worry about the debt crisis in Europe.

Specifically, analysts will want to know how busy Tiffany's New York flagship store is and details on sales in Europe, Japan and China.

In August, Tiffany lowered its profit outlook amid growing caution among its clientele. At the time, it said it expected 2012 earnings of $3.55 to $3.70 per share, down from $3.70 to $3.80 per share.

Still, Tiffany is planning stores in new cities. It now plans to open 28 company-operated stores this year compared with the previously planned 24.

WHY IT MATTERS: Tiffany is a bellwether for the luxury market, so if the company sees that shoppers are becoming more cautious, that has consequences for the broader economy.

WHAT'S EXPECTED: Analysts expect earnings of 63 cents per share on revenue of $858.8 million, according FactSet.

LAST YEAR'S QUARTER: The company reported net income of 70 cents per share on revenue of $821.9 million.

France recognizes new Syrian opposition coalition

PARIS (Reuters) - France said on Tuesday it recognizes Syria's newly formed opposition coalition as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, becoming the first European nation to do so.

Syrian opposition groups struck a deal in Doha on Sunday to form a broad coalition to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad after 20 months of an uprising against his rule.

"I announce today that France recognizes the Syrian National Council as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people and as future government of a democratic Syria allowing to bring an end to Bashar al-Assad's regime," Hollande told a news conference in Paris.

Syria opposition sign deal to form new body: delegate

DOHA (Reuters) - Syrian opposition groups have signed an initial agreement to form a new coalition of forces fighting to end the rule of President Bashar al-Assad, Syrian delegates at talks in Doha said on Sunday.

"An initial deal has been signed. The evening session will be for electing the president of the body and his deputy," Ali Sadreddine al-Bayanouni, a Muslim Brotherhood delegate, told reporters.

The new body, made up of groups inside and outside Syria, would be called the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, delegates said.

The group's leader, once chosen, will automatically become the focal point for opposition activities.

U.S. diplomats and officials from Qatar, which has bankrolled opposition to Assad and played a major role in Arab diplomacy against him, have prodded the players over the past week to come to an arrangement.

The parties were close to a deal in the early hours of Sunday after Qatari and United Arab Emirates officials pressed them to agree, but it appeared to fall through when the meeting broke up at 3 a.m.

The Syrian National Council (SNC), which has led overseas opposition activity over the past year, had lost the confidence of Washington and other powers who saw it as ineffective and riven with personal disputes.

The new plan involves a 55- or 60-member assembly alongside a military council including rebel groups such as the Free Syrian Army and a judicial council.

It will seek to obtain international recognition as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people and form a ten-member government-in-waiting, SNC member Wael Merza told Reuters.

At the talks in Doha bringing together various opposition groups, the SNC had been concerned at being sidelined in the wider body, a U.S.-backed proposal presented by prominent dissident Riad Seif.

A source inside the meeting said the SNC had asked to continue the talks on Sunday but that it would be a "last chance", suggesting that opposition figures behind the U.S.-backed initiative are threatening to go ahead without the SNC.

International backers of the opposition fear that rapidly changing events on the ground could lead to Assad's rule collapsing and jihadist militias seizing the initiative in a power vacuum if no opposition body abroad is in a position to step in immediately.

Anti-Assad protests erupted nearly 20 months ago, meeting a violent response which led to a conflict that has cost more than 38,000 lives and threatens to spill into neighboring countries.
