How To Lose The Love Feeling Or Fall Out Of ... - Relationships Tips

Okay, Me and my ex dated for a year and we have only broken up for one week and he already found someone new. I didn?t know that he found someone new after he texted me. He told me that he still loves me, wants to be friends, and get together in the future while he?s dating/chasing this girl. He keeps on telling me that he loves me and if I was close to him, he would date me again. (The thing is that I moved to Kansas and he?s still living in Cali) He always says that he would come back for me. The reason we broke up is because he couldn?t handle my love for him and he doesn?t appreciate me bragging about my love of him even though I was commitment and faithful as ****? And I don?t want to be in a position of a love triangle somewhat like that because he love me but likes another girl? So I decided to end everything, but he keeps on yelling at me because I?m letting him go, etc. So, I know it was my fault and his but I just really need some tips to lose the feelings? It just hurts my chest so much. Literally it does. Just give me advice to lose the feelings. I don?t want to take years to lose the feelings. I don?t want to waste my time on a guy who loves me but likes another girl.

Cancer Care's ?Culture of Excess? | Work In Progress

You probably didn?t need an expert panel of researchers to tell you that the cost of treating cancer is spiraling out of control. But one did, and what that panel has to say is eye-opening, even when you?ve heard it all before.

Reporting in The Lancet Oncology, a team of 37 people?mostly oncologists, and a handful of patient advocates?deliver a stark set of statistics and insights about the factors conspiring to push these numbers to such wildly unsustainable levels. Here?s a brief rundown:

? About 12 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer ever year. This number is expected to increase to 27 million by 2030
? The cost of new cancer cases worldwide was $286 billion per year in 2009.
? Most developed countries spend 4% to 7% of their healthcare budgets on cancer.

The panel discussed these concerns at the European Multidisciplinary Cancer Congress, and an audio file of this talk is available online. That?s 51 well-spent minutes if you can spare them. In the meantime, here are some highlights from the written report (the result of a 12-month investigation and which was commissioned by The Lancet Oncology) and the Congress discussion.

First, Richard Sullivan, an oncologist at King?s College, London, and lead author of the report, explains that although the absolute numbers are alarming, it?s the rate of change that is the real concern. For example, in the U.K., the total amount spent on breast cancer has increased by about 10% every year for the past four years.

Presenting an overview of the report, Sullivan notes the main drivers of this problem to be:
? Sociodemographic: The population in developed countries is aging rapidly, and age is a major risk factor for cancer. By 2040, 25% of populations in developed countries will be over 65 years old.
? Technocultural: Huge increase in number of new technologies, not only medicine, but also surgical, imaging?
? Macroeconomics: The pricing models of healthcare systems are leading to a major increase in cost of salaries, infrastructure costs, and individual technologists.

Macroeconomics provides useful methods for understanding what is happening in cancer care:

? iCER: Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios can be used to evaluate health technologies. But clinical trials don?t have embedded socioeconomic components, which is a huge missed opportunity. Just as biomarker studies are now being integrated into clinical trials, so should economic factors.

? The ?asymmetric information problem?: We don?t understand the true costs are in many of our healthcare systems. Only very few people know these costs, and generally speaking that small population does not include doctors or patients. Cost needs to be linked to outcomes in a way that is apparent to everyone.

? Currently, the range of iCERs is vast. For example, in colorectal cancer, there are new drugs costing $22K per quality-adjusted life year (QALY). For hematologic malignancies, there are new drugs that cost $48K per QALY. And there are still other drugs that cost $100K per QALY. And this cost is for medication only; biomarker analyses, imaging, and surgery can also be looked at in terms of price per QALY.

? New pricing structures are needed, and are presented in the full report. For example, one option the panel explores is performance-based pricing.

? New technologies can be used much more wisely. Robotic surgery is an incredibly expensive tool in part because it is not always used in the right way, which diminishes its efficacy and increases complications, which cost money to address. One panelist noted that the Robot could end up saving money, but only if it?s used in a better way than it is now.

? According to the panel, cancer care is a complex adaptive system.

? There is a serious issue in cancer care with the moral hazard problem. These arise when an individual or institution doesn?t take full responsibilty and, shielded from any tangible consequence, acts less carefully than they should, leaving others to clean up the mess.

As many researchers have been increasingly pointing out, there is a major problem with overuse of treatments and technologies in cancer care, and a problem with unnecessary care in which medicines are used that give no benefit during the last few weeks of a patient?s life.

From the summary of the report, provided by The Lancet Oncology:

Several drivers of cost, such as over-use, rapid expansion, and shortening life cycles of cancer technologies (such as medicines and imaging modalities), and the lack of suitable clinical research and integrated health economic studies, have converged with more defensive medical practice, a less informed regulatory system, a lack of evidence-based sociopolitical debate, and a declining degree of fairness for all patients with cancer. Urgent solutions range from re-engineering of the macroeconomic basis of cancer costs (eg, value-based approaches to bend the cost curve and allow cost-saving technologies), greater education of policy makers, and an informed and transparent regulatory system. A radical shift in cancer policy is also required. Political toleration of unfairness in access to affordable cancer treatment is unacceptable. The cancer profession and industry should take responsibility and not accept a substandard evidence base and an ethos of very small benefit at whatever cost; rather, we need delivery of fair prices and real value from new technologies.

And, an excerpt of the report as quoted in The Huffington Post:

?Evidence shows that a substantial percentage of cancer care spending occurs in the last weeks and months of life, and that in a large percentage of cases, such care is not only futile, but contrary to the goals and preferences of many patients and families if they were adequately informed of their options.

?Therefore, empowering patients through education and shared decision making can potentially improve care and lower costs. Specifically, when patients are informed that their cancer is life threatening, but there is a treatment available, many choose to be treated irrespective of personal costs, and certainly of costs borne by their insurer.

?However, there is potential to improve care and reduce spending by empowering patients to forgo expensive and futile, or low-probability care when this matches their goals and preferences, and by empowering physicians to discuss these issues with their patients, and to recommend stopping disease-directed care when appropriate.?

And, as quoted in this news story, by FiercePharma, an important question from Richard Sullivan, the lead author of the report:

?Do we bury our heads in the sand, keep our fingers crossed, and hope that it turns out fine, or do we have difficult debates and make hard choices??

Lastly, mention must be made of the title of the panel?s report, which is: ?Delivering Affordable Care in High-Income Countries.?

Once again, that sad and disturbing title is: Delivering Affordable Care in High-Income Countries.

Present day Religion: A Setting For Self-Improvement And Anxiety ...

Author name: Fredrick Y.J. Weyer

Our most fast regard is to the mind?s rapid resentment of problem to its comfort zone. Most are at ease with position quo and are not receptive to a problem of spiritual integrity. Beneath captured-audience influence and matter to the demands of leadership, each discipline demands a great deal of the religionist?s disposable income as nicely as time: each discipline imposes a frequent barrage of solicitations and promised advantage in the institutionalized arena. It is unachievable to obey and welcome all the rules and encroachments of participation. Even Ezekiel, talking of the ?end time? and issues of compliance, explained: ?However these 3 guys, Noah, Daniel, and Profession, had been in it, they really should supply but their private souls by their righteousness? they shall supply neither sons nor daughters they only shall be delivered?? If a single can wrap his mind all around the implication, he will discover himself on the short stop of the stick, if without a doubt this kind of stick is a measure of reward contingent on rules compliance.

The place modern day religionists stand, in light of the Ezekiel restriction, does not depend on modern day picked people today perception but on the identity and definition of principals opened in Bible Symbols and Numbers. This is an important and far-reaching observation. Equally theism and atheism sort their debate from a Truth About Abs Review flawed place, ignoring the symbol and quantity dictates, and basing their belief more on speculation and desire than the unraveling of cabal. Debate bounces back again and forth with no benefit, for they neglect the mediating link hidden in Bible symbols and numbers, the only way to wrest a wise determination from the hidden language. Equally belief and unbelief, in ignorance of the hidden agenda, falls victim to impression and emotion. Only in a proper evaluation of Bible symbols can good interpretation resolve the atheist/theist dispute. The reality will shock all who dare to investigate the bottom line in eschatology and Parousia time frame! Latest investigate reveals a indicates of escape from the strain of unreasonable promotions.

Self Advancement Strategies ? Follow These Strategies For a Much better You!

Suggestion #two ? Don?t compare and contrast yourself to others. Along the way to your important objectives, there are probably to be these who just seem to be to zoom previous you with no as well a great deal hard work. This can be a Mike Geary Truth About Abs discouraging celebration, but understand to take it in your stride. Merely ignore what your competition are performing and focus your electricity on your private efforts.

Suggestion #three ? Remain malleable, not rigid, in your tactic. You will need to be rigid in your determination, but not in your tactic. Be prepared to change the route to get to your target. This is not modifying the target in any way, just recognising that, in buy to realize good details, from time to time we will need to be flexible.

Self Advancement ? The Best ?Word? in the Globe

?The biggest word in the world? is quite suitable to the improvement of self. It is a word that can imply a good deal it is a little something you ?have? nevertheless it is a little something that you can?t listen to, see, flavor or scent. When you ?have it? you can realize anything at all. It can stop wars, settle arguments and discover answers to the most troublesome difficulties and it is just as meaningful to a small problem as it is to a significant a single.

All the good guys and women in heritage had it or have it and if you want self improvement you diffidently would want it. If you use it to any chore you will discover the answer, it got man to the moon and back again all over again and is accountable for the most important discoveries ever designed. The Center East conflict would stop tomorrow if it was applied to peace and we would all reside in harmony with the normal entire world if we applied it to bettering our relationship with nature.

Self-Advancement ? How to Make ?The Solution? Function For You

Self-Advancement is significant enterprise. It is amazing how countless content articles are written promising people today rapid solutions to their everyday life problems. Just yesterday I obtained an email saying that in two basic steps you can put into action what ?The Secret? did not inform you. Do you wonder, as I do, if it really is that basic. There is the saying that if it is as well excellent to be legitimate you have to be skeptical. The exact goes also for self-support books and arrive-ons. Why would there be so countless books out there if there definitely is a basic answer?

These books nonetheless do serve an important purpose. They reinforce the concept that people today have the probable to take cost of their lives and make their lives more effective. It puts the duty back again on the person to ?grow? and seem for answers by presenting some answers. The concept commonly is that by taking cost of everyday life all sorts of details which seem to be unachievable end up probable.

The American 'allergy' to global warming: Why? (AP)

NEW YORK ? Tucked between treatises on algae and prehistoric turquoise beads, the study on page 460 of a long-ago issue of the U.S. journal Science drew little attention.

"I don't think there were any newspaper articles about it or anything like that," the author recalls.

But the headline on the 1975 report was bold: "Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?" And this article that coined the term may have marked the last time a mention of "global warming" didn't set off an instant outcry of angry denial.

___

EDITOR'S NOTE: Climate change has already provoked debate in a U.S. presidential campaign barely begun. An Associated Press journalist draws on decades of climate reporting to offer a retrospective and analysis on global warming and the undying urge to deny.

___

In the paper, Columbia University geoscientist Wally Broecker calculated how much carbon dioxide would accumulate in the atmosphere in the coming 35 years, and how temperatures consequently would rise. His numbers have proven almost dead-on correct. Meanwhile, other powerful evidence poured in over those decades, showing the "greenhouse effect" is real and is happening. And yet resistance to the idea among many in the U.S. appears to have hardened.

What's going on?

"The desire to disbelieve deepens as the scale of the threat grows," concludes economist-ethicist Clive Hamilton.

He and others who track what they call "denialism" find that its nature is changing in America, last redoubt of climate naysayers. It has taken on a more partisan, ideological tone. Polls find a widening Republican-Democratic gap on climate. Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry even accuses climate scientists of lying for money. Global warming looms as a debatable question in yet another U.S. election campaign.

From his big-windowed office overlooking the wooded campus of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., Broecker has observed this deepening of the desire to disbelieve.

"The opposition by the Republicans has gotten stronger and stronger," the 79-year-old "grandfather of climate science" said in an interview. "But, of course, the push by the Democrats has become stronger and stronger, and as it has become a more important issue, it has become more polarized."

The solution: "Eventually it'll become damned clear that the Earth is warming and the warming is beyond anything we have experienced in millions of years, and people will have to admit..." He stopped and laughed.

"Well, I suppose they could say God is burning us up."

The basic physics of anthropogenic ? manmade ? global warming has been clear for more than a century, since researchers proved that carbon dioxide traps heat. Others later showed CO2 was building up in the atmosphere from the burning of coal, oil and other fossil fuels. Weather stations then filled in the rest: Temperatures were rising.

"As a physicist, putting CO2 into the air is good enough for me. It's the physics that convinces me," said veteran Cambridge University researcher Liz Morris. But she said work must go on to refine climate data and computer climate models, "to convince the deeply reluctant organizers of this world."

The reluctance to rein in carbon emissions revealed itself early on.

In the 1980s, as scientists studied Greenland's buried ice for clues to past climate, upgraded their computer models peering into the future, and improved global temperature analyses, the fossil-fuel industries were mobilizing for a campaign to question the science.

By 1988, NASA climatologist James Hansen could appear before a U.S. Senate committee and warn that global warming had begun, a dramatic announcement later confirmed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a new, U.N.-sponsored network of hundreds of international scientists.

But when Hansen was called back to testify in 1989, the White House of President George H.W. Bush edited this government scientist's remarks to water down his conclusions, and Hansen declined to appear.

That was the year U.S. oil and coal interests formed the Global Climate Coalition to combat efforts to shift economies away from their products. Britain's Royal Society and other researchers later determined that oil giant Exxon disbursed millions of dollars annually to think tanks and a handful of supposed experts to sow doubt about the facts.

In 1997, two years after the IPCC declared the "balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate," the world's nations gathered in Kyoto, Japan, to try to do something about it. The naysayers were there as well.

"The statement that we'll have continued warming with an increase in CO2 is opinion, not fact," oil executive William F. O'Keefe of the Global Climate Coalition insisted to reporters in Kyoto.

The late Bert Bolin, then IPCC chief, despaired.

"I'm not really surprised at the political reaction," the Swedish climatologist told The Associated Press. "I am surprised at the way some of the scientific findings have been rejected in an unscientific manner."

In fact, a document emerged years later showing that the industry coalition's own scientific team had quietly advised it that the basic science of global warming was indisputable.

Kyoto's final agreement called for limited rollbacks in greenhouse emissions. The United States didn't even join in that. And by 2000, the CO2 built up in the atmosphere to 369 parts per million ? just 4 ppm less than Broecker predicted ? compared with 280 ppm before the industrial revolution.

Global temperatures rose as well, by 0.6 degrees C (1.1 degrees F) in the 20th century. And the mercury just kept rising. The decade 2000-2009 was the warmest on record, and 2010 and 2005 were the warmest years on record.

Satellite and other monitoring, meanwhile, found nights were warming faster than days, and winters more than summers, and the upper atmosphere was cooling while the lower atmosphere warmed ? all clear signals greenhouse warming was at work, not some other factor.

The impact has been widespread.

An authoritative study this August reported that hundreds of species are retreating toward the poles, egrets showing up in southern England, American robins in Eskimo villages. Some, such as polar bears, have nowhere to go. Eventual large-scale extinctions are feared.

The heat is cutting into wheat yields, nurturing beetles that are destroying northern forests, attracting malarial mosquitoes to higher altitudes.

From the Rockies to the Himalayas, glaciers are shrinking, sending ever more water into the world's seas. Because of accelerated melt in Greenland and elsewhere, the eight-nation Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program projects ocean levels will rise 90 to 160 centimeters (35 to 63 inches) by 2100, threatening coastlines everywhere.

"We are scared, really and truly," diplomat Laurence Edwards, from the Pacific's Marshall Islands, told the AP before the 1997 Kyoto meeting.

Today in his low-lying home islands, rising seas have washed away shoreline graveyards, saltwater has invaded wells, and islanders desperately seek aid to build a seawall to shield their capital.

The oceans are turning more acidic, too, from absorbing excess carbon dioxide. Acidifying seas will harm plankton, shellfish and other marine life up the food chain. Biologists fear the world's coral reefs, home to much ocean life and already damaged from warmer waters, will largely disappear in this century.

The greatest fears may focus on "feedbacks" in the Arctic, warming twice as fast as the rest of the world.

The Arctic Ocean's summer ice cap has shrunk by half and is expected to essentially vanish by 2030 or 2040, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center reported Sept. 15. Ashore, meanwhile, the Arctic tundra's permafrost is thawing and releasing methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

These changes will feed on themselves: Released methane leads to warmer skies, which will release more methane. Ice-free Arctic waters absorb more of the sun's heat than do reflective ice and snow, and so melt will beget melt. The frozen Arctic is a controller of Northern Hemisphere climate; an unfrozen one could upend age-old weather patterns across continents.

In the face of years of scientific findings and growing impacts, the doubters persist. They ignore long-term trends and seize on insignificant year-to-year blips in data to claim all is well. They focus on minor mistakes in thousands of pages of peer-reviewed studies to claim all is wrong. And they carom from one explanation to another for today's warming Earth: jet contrails, sunspots, cosmic rays, natural cycles.

"Ninety-eight percent of the world's climate scientists say it's for real, and yet you still have deniers," observed former U.S. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, a New York Republican who chaired the House's science committee.

Christiana Figueres, Costa Rican head of the U.N.'s post-Kyoto climate negotiations, finds it "very, very perplexing, this apparent allergy that there is in the United States. Why?"

The Australian scholar Hamilton sought to explain why in his 2010 book, "Requiem for a Species: Why We Resist the Truth About Climate Change."

In an interview, he said he found a "transformation" from the 1990s and its industry-financed campaign, to an America where climate denial "has now become a marker of cultural identity in the `angry' parts of the United States."

"Climate denial has been incorporated in the broader movement of right-wing populism," he said, a movement that has "a visceral loathing of environmentalism."

An in-depth study of a decade of Gallup polling finds statistical backing for that analysis.

On the question of whether they believed the effects of global warming were already happening, the percentage of self-identified Republicans or conservatives answering "yes" plummeted from almost 50 percent in 2007-2008 to 30 percent or less in 2010, while liberals and Democrats remained at 70 percent or more, according to the study in this spring's Sociological Quarterly.

A Pew Research Center poll last October found a similar left-right gap.

The drop-off coincided with the election of Democrat Barack Obama as president and the Democratic effort in Congress, ultimately futile, to impose government caps on industrial greenhouse emissions.

Boehlert, the veteran Republican congressman, noted that "high-profile people with an `R' after their name, like Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann, are saying it's all fiction. Pooh-poohing the science of climate change feeds into their basic narrative that all government is bad."

The quarterly study's authors, Aaron M. McCright of Michigan State University and Riley E. Dunlap of Oklahoma State, suggested climate had joined abortion and other explosive, intractable issues as a mainstay of America's hardening left-right gap.

"The culture wars have thus taken on a new dimension," they wrote.

Al Gore, for one, remains upbeat. The former vice president and Nobel Prize-winning climate campaigner says "ferocity" in defense of false beliefs often increases "as the evidence proving them false builds."

In an AP interview, he pointed to tipping points in recent history ? the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the dismantling of U.S. racial segregation ? when the potential for change built slowly in the background, until a critical mass was reached.

"This is building toward a point where the falsehoods of climate denial will be unacceptable as a basis for policy much longer," Gore said. "As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, `How long? Not long.'"

Even Wally Broecker's jest ? that deniers could blame God ? may not be an option for long.

Last May the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Sciences, arm of an institution that once persecuted Galileo for his scientific findings, pronounced on manmade global warming: It's happening.

Said the pope's scientific advisers, "We must protect the habitat that sustains us."

Fall Lawn Care Tips ... - ERA Home & Family Real Estate

The nights are cooler, the leaves are changing and the grass is growing slower. Now is the perfect time to get your lawn ready for the spring and summer. Many people do not realize that even in the winter your lawn continues to grow a stronger root system.

Here are some tips to help turn your lawn into a beautiful carpet of green next spring.

1) Fertilize-Your lawn needs food during winter months to help aid in root growth. Feeding your lawn? also help produce a beautiful green color green when spring ?arrives.

2) Water-Your lawn needs water. It ?needs water to absorb the fall fertilizer and to grow strong roots. Make sure to continue to water your lawn until winter arrives.

3) Kill those Weeds- Buy a broad leaf weed killer and apply it before the temperatures drop below 50 degrees during the day. This will prevent weeds from popping up in the spring.

4) Rake the Leaves-Grass needs sunlight and leaves will gradually kill it. Leaves also breed disease when left on the lawn to die.

6) Aerate-Aerating your soil will give the roots a chance to breath. ?Aeration allows water and nutrients to reach the root system more easily.

7) Reseed-Fall temperatures are a perfect time to fill in any holes in your lawn. Rake the soil around the patch, spread the grass seed, ?cover the grass seed an inch or two thick with peat moss, and then water as usual.
8) Control Grubs-Adult beetles lay their eggs throughout your grass in July and August. Grubs will grow throughout the winter and eat the roots of your grass. Fall is the ideal time to buy insecticide for grub control.

9) Mow-Keep your grass two inches high for the upcoming winter. Grass that is longer will mold under the snow. Grass that is shorter the two inches will die.

Taking care of your lawn in the fall will provide you many happy days on a green, weed free lawn in the spring and summer.

Police probe cause of Mich. vehicle blast; 3 hurt

(AP) ? Investigators on Wednesday were poring over the blackened remains of a vehicle that exploded on a Michigan street, trying to determine if the blast, which seriously injured the man and two children inside, was caused by a bomb or some sort of mechanical failure.

Monroe police initially said they were investigating the Tuesday evening explosion as a possible car bombing. But police Lt. Charles Abel said later Wednesday the investigation was "being listed as a car fire with an explosion." He didn't discount that a bomb could have caused the blast.

Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were examining the wreck, and police said the agency would likely take the lead in the investigation. The ATF did not immediately respond to Wednesday phone requests seeking comment. Authorities were expected to hold a news conference later in the day.

The blast occurred on a tree-lined street under a highway in Monroe, which is about 35 miles southwest of Detroit. Television news footage showed that the vehicle had been turned into a charred shell. On Wednesday morning, the only sign of the fire at the scene was charred pavement where the vehicle burned.

Police said the only people injured were the three occupants, a man and two children, who were in serious condition at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, which is about 20 miles south of Monroe. Police did not publicly identify the victims or the registered owner of the vehicle.

An FBI spokeswoman in Detroit referred questions to local police and the ATF. State police, which also assisted, referred questions to local police.

Monroe is a city of more than 20,000 that is one of Michigan's oldest communities. It has a historic downtown and is home to furniture maker La-Z-Boy Inc.

Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2011 wrap-up

We came, we saw, we conquered -- and just like that, Intel's Developer Forum was over. Much like years past, Chipzilla was proudly beating its own drum: we saw demos of Ivy Bridge and Haswell, a healthy helping of Ultrabooks and of course its high speed interconnect du jour, Thunderbolt. But that doesn't mean we didn't see a lot of other random, mind-stimulating otherness. Did you catch all the treasures we found lurking deep within the halls of this year's show? Unfortunately, we can't tell from here, so you better hop past the break for the full listing and find out.

50Plus : Health : Seniors ?Rev It Up? for healthy living

Health ?

* Special Educational Feature *

Physical activity, mental fitness and good nutrition are key to living life to the fullest, at any age.

For healthy aging, think of how you can Rev It Up. That?s the name of a program from Revera Inc., a leading provider of seniors? accommodation, care and services, which is helping seniors to dramatically improve their quality of life.

Rev It Up combines three core areas of well-being ? physical activity, mental fitness and good nutrition ? into a fun and personalized program for seniors.

?Our residents want to be able to live their lives to the fullest,? says Jeff Lozon, President and CEO at Revera. ?We admire their spirit and vitality, and aim to deliver choices and programs that support their independence.?

While Rev It Up is offered at select retirement residences, any senior can follow the philosophy. ?It?s an holistic approach, meaning that it looks at fitness in terms of mind, body and spirit,? says Alice Jean Raffan, National Director Recreation and Rehab at Revera.

Residents take part in programs that are tailored for them ? physical training with instructors that works on areas like strength, balance and flexibility; computer activities that stimulate the brain and memory; and a choice of nutritious and well-balanced meals.

?Research shows that all of these areas are linked to promote the most vibrant life possible as we age,? says Raffan. ?We?re seeing the results in our residents ? seniors who fall less, who can move around more easily, or who report a stronger sense of independence and self-confidence.?

Staff assess participants to determine their personal goals and abilities, and provide support along the way.

As Rev It Up expands, Revera is seeing the positive impact of how physical fitness, cognitive workouts and nutrition work together to improve everything from energy to mood. Even simple activities just a few times a week, like regular walks or socializing with family and friends, can make a world of difference, says Raffan.

?We?re trying to change the way people think about aging,? she says. ?The Rev It Up program is about helping seniors feel fit and fabulous, no matter their age or ability.?

Farmers flee as world's deadliest volcano rumbles

Bold farmers in Indonesia routinely ignore orders to evacuate the slopes of live volcanoes, but those living on Tambora took no chances when history's deadliest mountain rumbled ominously this month.

Villagers like Hasanuddin Sanusi have heard since they were young how the mountain they call home once blew apart in the largest eruption ever recorded ? an 1815 event widely forgotten outside their region ? killing 90,000 people and blackening skies on the other side of the globe.

So, the 45-year-old farmer didn't wait to hear what experts had to say when Mount Tambora started being rocked by a steady stream of quakes. He grabbed his wife and four young children, packed his belongings and raced down its quivering slopes.

"It was like a horror story, growing up," said Hasanuddin, who joined hundreds of others in refusing to return to their mountainside villages for several days despite assurances they were safe.

"A dragon sleeping inside the crater, that's what we thought. If we made him angry ? were disrespectful to nature, say ? he'd wake up spitting flames, destroying all of mankind."

The April 1815 eruption of Tambora left a crater 7 miles wide and half a mile deep, spewing an estimated 400 million tons of sulfuric gases into the atmosphere and leading to "the year without summer" in the U.S. and Europe.

It was 10 times more powerful than Indonesia's much better-known Krakatoa blast of 1883 ? history's second deadliest. But it doesn't share the same international renown, because the only way news spread across the oceans at the time was by slowboat, said Tambora researcher Indyo Pratomo.

In contrast, Krakatoa's eruption occurred just as the telegraph became popular, turning it into the first truly global news event.

The reluctance of Hasanuddin and others to return to villages less than 6 miles from Tambora's crater sounds like simple good sense. But it runs contrary to common practice in the sprawling nation of 240 million ? home to more volcanoes than any other in the world.

Even as Merapi, Kelut and other famously active mountains shoot out towering pillars of hot ash, farmers cling to their fertile slopes, leaving only when soldiers load them into trucks at gunpoint. They return before it's safe to check on their livestock and crops.

Quiet for 200 years
Tambora is different.

People here are jittery because of the mountain's history ? and they're not used to feeling the earth move so violently beneath their feet. Aside from a few minor bursts in steam in the 1960s, the mountain has been quiet for much of the last 200 years.

Gede Suantika of the government's Center for Volcanology said activity first picked up in April, with the volcanic quakes jumping from less than five a month to more than 200.

"It also started spewing ash and smoke into the air, sometimes as high as 4,600 feet," he said. "That's something I've never seen it do before."

Authorities raised the alert to the second-highest level two weeks ago, but said only villagers within 2 miles from the crater needed to evacuate.

That didn't stop hundreds of men, women and children living well outside the danger zone from packing their clothes, jewelry and important documents and heading to the homes of family and friends elsewhere on Sumbawa island.

"We've urged them to go back to harvest their crops, get their kids back in school, but we're having a hard time," said Syaifullah, a community chief in Pekat, at the foot of the 8,900-foot mountain.

"The new alert awakened fears about 1815."

Most people finally trickled back to their homes by Monday.

Little was known about Tambora's global impact until the 1980s, when Greenland ice core samples ? which can be read much like tree rings ? revealed an astonishing concentration of sulfur at the layer dating back to 1816, said geologist Jelle de Boer, co-author of "Volcanoes in Human History: The Far-Reaching Effects of Major Eruption."

Gases had combined with water vapor to form fine droplets of acid that remained for years in the atmosphere, circling the earth and reflecting some of the solar radiation back into space.

Temperatures worldwide plummetted, causing crops to fail and leading to massive starvation.

Farmers on the northeastern coast of the U.S. reported snow well into July.

In France, grape harvests were decimated. Daniel Lawton of the wine brokerage Tastet-Lawton said a note in his company's files remarks that 1816 was a "detestable year" and yielded only a quarter of the crop planted.

'Pompeii of the East'
Soon after the ice core findings, scientists started studying Tambora in earnest.

In 2004, Icelandic vulcanologist Haraldur Sigurdsson and a team of American and Indonesian researchers uncovered remnants of a village in a gully on Tambora's flank that had been pulverized in the fast-moving pyroclastic flow.

Sigurdsson heralded it as a "Pompeii of the East," and local researcher Made Geria says archaeologists have expanded the dig every year since then.

No one expects a repeat of 1815 just yet ? it takes much more than 200 years for that type of huge pressure to build up again, said de Boer, who teaches at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

But that's little consolation for those confronted with the mountain's new burst of activity.

Like Hasanuddin, teenager Malik Mahmud has heard the stories.

"Tens of thousands of people, animals and rice fields disappeared," the 15-year-old said, adding that a veil of ash blocked out the sun for years.

"There was no life here," he said quietly from the village of Doropeti, nine miles from the crater. "I know that from my parents."

Kate Gosselin ? Official Family Party Commemorating Show's End ...

Kate Gosselin is planning an official family party to commemorate the end of their reality show, Kate Plus Eight. She recently blogged about the upcoming party plans on her new website, KatePlusMy8.com.

According to a report from Babble, Kate indicated that the party would be held on Saturday evening at the family?s home in Pennsylvania. She is even planning to serve a cake that reads, ?Job Well Done, Kate + 8.?

Cake and ice cream are on the menu, as are a barrage of memories the family will reminisce about together. Kate has always been big on family parties, so it?s not a huge surprise that she?ll throw one to celebrate the end of the show.

Of course, despite the party plans, Kate Gosselin certainly isn?t celebrating the fact that she is no longer gainfully employed. She now has to figure out a way to support her eight kids?supplemented by Jon Gosselin?s child support payments, of course?and still live in the manner to which they?ve all grown accustomed. That?s not going to be easy, Kate!

Kate Gosselin closes the blog on her website by saying, ?It?s been a long 6 years? one that needs a good old-fashioned family bonding celebration? Don?t you think??

So what do you think Kate Gosselin?s next move might be? Once the cake and ice cream are all eaten up and the party hats are put away, what will the new mood be in the Gosselin household? It would be nice if Kate would consider downsizing. Then she could possibly afford to do the occasional TV talk show, and the kids could learn to live a fairly normal life.

So you think that might even remotely be a consideration of Kate Gosselin?s?

Design a Functional and Tranquil Bathroom with the Latest ...

Home Improvement - Bath Showers

Terry Metcalfe

When creating your new bathroom there is no doubt that it is exciting but also stressful. There is so much on offer on our market, design; brand, popularity, cost and functionality all play a huge role in deciding what is right for us.

?

Today fixtures, fittings and sanitary ware have become widely available and more importantly much more affordable to all of us. We can have the dream bathroom that we desire and can experience the tranquillity of it in our own homes and not just when we visit places like hotels and resorts. It doesn?t have to be too much hard work to get it right, considerations have to be taken into account however once we know what we want and the style that works it is relatively simple.

?

It is obvious that we want our new bathroom to be modern and stylish but it needs to excel in functionality also. For those who are unfortunate to have a smaller bathroom, it doesn?t have to end there for them. With compact vanity units and shower baths you don?t need to miss out at all. The compact vanity unit has become an extremely popular choice among buyers over recent years. They are available in a variation of colours and styles. In terms serving a purpose these units really do excel, they are sleek and neat with a small basin and good space below for storage. We all know that storage in the bathroom is essential in helping create the perfect bathroom, clutter and bottles that are on show look untidy and unsightly and ruin the overall look of the bathroom.

?

The shower bath is a solution for those people with smaller bathrooms as it is a fantastic space saver. Consisting of a standard bath, or if preferred p shaped bath and screen with a shower attached to the wall. It allows those homes that wish to have both a bath and shower in the bathroom but don?t have the room to have both items. Although these baths are plain and simple, they can be spruced up to look more eye-catching than they once were. With a detailed screen or bath panel or both it can look like a completely different item.

?

Taps play a huge part in our bathrooms. Usually an item that we don?t think much about when creating our new bathroom can change a bath or a basin in an instant to look modern and new. The most popular tap nowadays is the mixer tap. This tap is one unit, not two like the traditional type and it mixes the water to allow you to achieve the ideal temperature. The mixer tap is available in a wide variety of styles and finishes. Other taps that have become popular is the cascading waterfall tap that commonly has colour changing lights fitted and the sensor tap that functions when it senses the movement of hands below it.

?

None of us have the excuse to have a poor looking bathroom with the vast array of products available today. They are affordable and certainly easy to come by and if you don?t wish to replace the whole bathroom then there is no need with the fantastic accessories that will do it for you.

?

Terry Metcalfe writes on behalf of Platinum Taps & Bathrooms specialists in body jet showers, shower enclosures, steam shower cabins, whirlpool baths and many more luxury accessories for the bathroom.

Customer Service ? The Life Blood of Effective Business | BalkanW

I?ve never forgotten the first time I called to complain about a new television set that was damaged. Not long after I had bought the television set, I turned it on to find out that the picture was somewhat distorted. Like any annoyed customer, I immediate called the manufacturer?s call-centre to see if they could fix it. To my surprise, the person who answered the phone abruptly cut me off for no particular reason.

As you could imagine, I was livid and vowed to never buy another electrical appliance from that company ever again. As a result of this unpleasant experience, it dawned upon me that customer service is the life-blood of any thriving company. So before it?s too late, let?s take a look at some surefire ways to build ?effective feel-good factors? so your clientele keeps coming back.

For me, I think good customer service is all about bringing customers back. The way you do this is to send your customer away happy. This is not as easy as it sounds. But nothing surprises your customer more than a staff member that goes the extra mile. Always look for ways to serve your customer more than they would expect. In doing so, it shows that you really care and it will leave your customer with the ?Feel Good Factor?.

In today?s competitive market place, many companies are trying to compete on price, causing hyper-competitive price wars. Smart companies, however, fight the competition with exceptional customer service. Making your business customer-centric is the most important way to bring customers to your organization.

If you want to experience good customer service, take a trip to your local Starbucks coffee shop. The first thing you?ll experience is an enthusiastic feel-good greeting from a well-trained staff member. You won?t be intimated by any of staff to order immediate. On the contrary, you?ll be surrounded by friendly and interested employees. If you are a regular, I found that the staff generally remembers your name and finally you?ll get an authentic farewell when you leave. What more could a customer ask for?

I don?t have to tell you that many businesses are forgetting about the people aspect. It?s essential to think of your customers as individuals. Once you keep this in mind, you?ll start to realize that your customers are the life-blood of your business. It never seizes to amaze me, how many businesses put all their focus on their goods, and tend to overlook the basic common sense rule of customer service.

I?m sure you know from your own experience, the worst thing to aggravate an angry customer is to show no empathy. You see, many untrained staff members reel off empathy statement with no authenticity. Think about it for a moment, even though all the right things are being said; a poor tone of voice can result in poor customer satisfaction. The next time a customer expresses his or her unhappiness, take a step back, breathe deeply, and try to put yourself in his or her shoes to feel a genuine sympathy for the customer.

So there you have it, some tips to help your business grow. By the way, if you need to develop your staffs? English skills tailored around the customer service industry, simply click on to Jakarta English Training?s website to learn more about our tailor-made English courses. I sure you?ll find a course that will perfectly suit your needs.

Jakarta English Training is a business English solution provider, who closely works with your organization to design and deliver English courses to match to your specific business English needs.

At 9/11 memorial, mourners take home rubbings (AP)

NEW YORK ? Nadine Mass' godfather died just steps from the exit of the World Trade Center. The Port Authority police officer and his captain had been trying to carry a woman in a wheelchair to safety.

Since Stephen Huczko Jr.'s death, his family has treasured photographs and memories of their time together. But it wasn't until this week that they were able to find a tangible symbol of his sacrifice.

"This is the first thing we've been able to have, to hold," Mass said, unrolling the crayon rubbing she took of his name at the newly opened 9/11 memorial. "This is our connection, maybe, to what really happened here. ... We can hold it. We can keep it."

The bronze bearing the thousands of names of those killed in the Sept. 11 attacks was specially processed to turn it a somber, matte black. Now, with the public opening of the plaza, those names have been transformed into a rainbow of colors as mourners and those paying their respects have used crayons of every shade to make rubbings of the names of the lost.

The etchings have been yellow, orange, blue, purple, green, red and black. Some of them are done in an untidy, childlike scribble, with the name emerging beneath. Others form a neat, exact record ? a solid piece of history.

Such rubbings have long been a way to record and a way to mourn ? a way to reclaim some piece of what has been lost. For decades, visitors have made similar mementos at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the nation's capital. And for at least a century, people have taken similar rubbings of gravestones.

Jim Brown has no cemetery where he can visit his brother-in-law, firefighter Kevin Bracken. Along with more than 1,100 others, Bracken's remains were never identified among the ruins of the twin towers. For his family, this place is the closest they have to a gravesite. Taking a rubbing of Bracken's name may be the closest they can come to bringing him home.

First seeing the memorial, "I felt a little bit of sadness," said Brown, who lost three relatives in the attacks. But "I felt better now that I've seen their names and taken a rubbing."

Mourners often are drawn to objects that represent a connection to the person they lost, said Charlton McIlwain, an American culture professor at New York University who has studied death rituals.

"People were looking for something tangible to hold onto, something that has some kind of emotional connection, for them, with their deceased loved one," he said.

The memorial, placed in the footprints of the twin towers, was designed with the rubbings in mind. One earlier version of the design would have included raised names with water flowing over them, but that idea was scrapped after a family member worried it would prevent people from making mementos from their loved ones' names, said memorial president Joe Daniels.

Ultimately, planners chose to create bronze parapets displaying the visual litany of names, the letters cleanly cut out of the bronze, with only light and emptiness beneath.

Now the memorial foundation is handing out rolls of white paper, ordered months ago, sized exactly so that visitors can make name rubbings. After testing a number of options, planners selected a black soy wax similar to a crayon that they believed made the clearest impressions, which they're giving out along with the paper.

Eventually, the memorial may charge visitors for a rubbing kit, Daniels said. But for the foreseeable future the materials will be free.

Some visitors surprised planners when they began taking rubbings not just of the names but also the raised group designations that name the fire companies and employers with whom victims were affiliated.

Keith Reed was among a group of volunteer firefighters from Lancaster, N.Y., paying their respects and making rubbings of the words First Responders and of the names of fire companies.

"We're bringing back souvenirs," he said, explaining that they planned to display the rubbings in their firehouse "for all the future generations."

While some visitors are bringing the rubbings away with them, others are leaving items behind. The cut-out names have become repositories for flowers, small flags and even notes, rolled up or folded into tiny packages, inserted into the gaps like an echo of the Wailing Wall. Above the name of Jane Eileen Josiah, one person left a single stone.

The items are cleared by workers each night. Flowers are discarded, while non-perishables are kept to be reviewed by curators for possible inclusion in the permanent collection, Daniels said.

Anything that falls inside the hollow bronze parapets is removed by workers who can access the space through removable panels.

Over time, the patina of the bronze will change. The pressure of crayon against paper against bronze is less likely to cause the shift than the skin oils of the millions of visitors who are expected to run their hands over the names, Daniels said, adding that it was gratifying to see the relatives of those lost make rubbings of their names.

"Families were in their regular routines that morning. You said goodbye or you didn't say goodbye and you went off to work. The abruptness of the loss is horrifying," he said. "So this is one little piece, that you can come to this very sacred place and take the name of your loved one back."

Rene Bollemans, visiting from Rotterdam, Holland, said he thought he understood the impulse to make a record of the names, to create a keepsake.

"When there's an accident and you lose someone, there's a body, you see the person, but here, many people have nothing left, nothing was found."

So, he said, the memorial represents "at least something that you can touch ? even if it's just a paper rolled over a name. It's at least something you can bring back home."
