Savvy Golf | Content for Reprint

Author: RoseannaLeaton | Total views: 468 Comments: 0
Word Count: 690 Date:

The key to playing savvy golf is to play to your strengths.? You, like me, will no doubt have played with golfers who insist on choosing the club and shot that they think should be played in a particular circumstance, irrespective of whether they are comfortable with that club or have indeed practiced that shot sufficiently to feel confident in its outcome.? That's not playing savvy golf.

?

?

The number one rule for the savvy golfer is to feel comfortable with the club that you have in your hand.? If it doesn't feel comfortable and imbue you with confidence then you cannot possibly commit to the shot.? Your intent and focus will be obliterated by your lack of comfort and your ball will quite likely shoot off along a very undesirable direction and trajectory.

?

?

There are many different ways in which to play each hole you encounter upon the golf course.? In reality you will most often find that so long as you make your wedges and putter into "happy clubs" you will score pretty well irrespective of what comes before.? I am of course speaking generally here.? But even if you choose to hit three shots with a seven iron to get near to your par 5 hole and then finish off with a chip and two putts you are playing safe bogey golf.

?

?

What I'm really getting at is that if you are standing on the tee box with your driver in hand and wondering in your own mind whether or not you can pull the shot off, you probably won't be able to do so.? If your ball is in an ugly position behind a bunch of trees and you can't see or haven't practiced a shot like the one that Bubba pulled off in the Masters, you probably won't be able to do it.

?

?

When you have a choice of potential shots to play, the best one, the savvy one, is the shot that you are at you are most comfortable with.? Someone else might be most comfortable with a 7 iron out of the rough but if you feel best with a 5 wood in your hands then that's the shot to play.? It doesn't matter what shot should be played.? What matters is that you are comfortable with the shot and you can see the shot in your minds eye.? Savvy golf is all about playing to your individual and unique strengths.

?

?

I am sure that you, like me, have heard your companion golfers commenting along the lines of "Don't know what's going to happen here so look out" as they set up to their ball.?? You, like me, have no doubt done the same yourself!? And we kick ourselves afterwards for being so stupid.? That's simply not playing savvy golf!

?

?

If you are around the green and a flop shot would be perfect, but you don't feel comfortable with that club or shot then don't attempt the shot.? Make a mental note to go practice it later so that you do feel comfortable next time.? In the meanwhile, choose the next best shot that you do feel comfortable with and play that one.? A chip onto the opposite side of the green and a two putt is better than a failed flop shot that digs you into a deeper hole and destroys your confidence and momentum at the same time.

?

?

Golf is a very mental game.? You have to think well, plan well, manage your expectations and accept outcomes.? Savvy golf is all about playing to your strengths.

Analysis of online data puts South Side firm on the map | TribLIVE

LunaMetrics CEO Robbin Steif at their South Side offices Thursday, January 10, 2013. The company is slated to launch a new aspect of its Google Analytics training program that will allow companies to learn more about their web traffic. Philip G. Pavely | Tribune-Review

Published: Tuesday, January 22, 2013, 12:01?a.m.
Updated 10 hours ago

What started as a favor to repay those who helped Robbin Steif to find the next chapter in her career today is a growing web analytics firm, still putting final touches on its new South Side digs.

?I have no idea how I even knew there were web analytics, but I did,? said Steif, CEO of LunaMetrics, which she incorporated in 2004 and started up the following year to help companies glean the most from their website traffic data. Since then, the firm has expanded into search engine optimization, social media and pay-per-click advertising.

LunaMetrics doubled sales in 2012 to about $1.5 million, Steif said.

The firm is the only Google Analytics Certified Partner in Western Pennsylvania and teaches classes on the East Coast to help companies get the most out of the search engine?s free service, which provides detailed data and statistics generated from website visits.

Kevin Stecko hired LunaMetrics as a consultant in early 2012 to help with 80sTees.com, his web-based business in Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland County.

?I like that they are local. That?s why I started with them and had heard of them,? Stecko said. ?As a small company, it?s easier for me to pay someone who knows how to use (Google Analytics) than for me to hire someone.?

Each month, Stecko is able to get detailed information on any single customer or a broader look at about all visitors to his website, such as where they originated online, what products they looked at on his site and what they bought, if anything.

?One thing it does not tell you is why, but having all of that information helps you formulate reasons as for why,? Stecko said. ?If we?re spending money to get people to the site, we want to show them what they want and increase the chances of them making a purchase.?

In addition to help with Google Analytics, Stecko said he has used LunaMetrics for Facebook advertising and might start using them for search-engine optimization, a service designed to boost the visibility of a company?s website.

This month, LunaMetrics is expanding its Google Analytics course to include more advanced training in Application Programming Interface, or API. It will beta test the new training during a five-day session starting on Monday in Pittsburgh.

This year, LunaMetrics is focused on growing its role as a Google Analytics premium authorized reseller, government sales and in predictive data, Steif said.

Its staff doubled to 13 last year, forcing its move into new offices on South 18th Street in September. Steif said she is looking to fill three new positions in paid search, analytics and sales.

She couldn?t have envisioned such growth just a few years ago. ?Now, I can easily imagine having 30,? said Steif of Squirrel Hill.

The Harvard business school graduate moved to Pittsburgh in 1986 from New York, where she worked for IBM?s direct response group.

She was chief financial officer for a Downtown technology design firm and innovation lab and later started Send Me No Flowers, which sold gifts by direct mail and e-commerce. She sold the business in 2001.

Looking to get back into the financial world, Steif sought help in networking circles. In return for people taking the time to offer advice and guidance, Steif offered her expertise to help their businesses through her knowledge of the budding world of web analytics.

It then dawned on her that this thank-you gesture actually could be a career.

?It was sort of the ?Internet winter,? ? Steif said, referring to the slowdown in e-commerce as a result of the dot-com bust, Y2K and 9/11. ?(The Internet) wasn?t the go-go place it was in 1999 or the place it is today. It was in a lull. But it wasn?t going away.?

Steif started LunaMetrics in 2004 and landed her first client, an indoor-outdoor lighting company, in 2005.

Growth was slow in the beginning, Steif said, because of challenges many new companies confront: no sales, no search-engine ranking and no reputation.

?No one knew who we were, and I didn?t have a sales force,? she said. ?I didn?t have much of an Internet presence even though we were an Internet business.?

In 2005, Google purchased Urchin on Demand web analytics software and released its own brand later that year.

While the data was good, the documentation telling people how to use the service wasn?t, Steif said. She and other users around the world discussed Google Analytics issues online, and Steif even wrote an e-book about how to use it.

?That?s one of the ways I came to their attention,? she said.

At an eMetrics Summit conference in Washington in 2006, Steif was seated at a table with several people from Google Analytics. They quickly asked if she would be interested in becoming a certified partner. Steif didn?t hesitate.

Within weeks, LunaMetrics? slow times were over.

?That was our big break,? Steif said. ?It started raining business.?

The deal with Google gave LunaMetrics legitimacy and drove business its way.

?It was amazing going from virtually no business to having a lot,? she said.

Today, LunaMetrics has 40 or more customers at any given time. In addition to 80sTees.com, other current and former clients include Heartland Homes, GNC and Duke Power.

?My biggest challenge now is hiring,? Steif said.

Lady Gaga Shopped At Kitson Kids For Some Reason | Music News ...

Lady Gaga treated herself to a little retail therapy at Kitson Kids in Los Angeles on Monday (January 21) just hours before her second show at the Staples Center. Normally, the fact that Mother Monster was seen shopping at a children?s clothing store would be cause for an eyebrow raise, but, quite frankly, we were too busy?furrowing?our brow over the pop star?s puzzling wardrobe choice. Gaga strolled down the street in a floor-length, puffy-sleeved print dress and floppy hat that would fit in quite nicely on a Nebraska farm in, say, the 1930s. (More specifically, she looks as though she took a style cue from Sesame Street?s Prairie Dawn.)

All kidding aside, we assume the ARTPOP singer needed a break from the confines of her skin-tight Born This Way Ball tour wardrobe ? and she deserves it. Just as Gaga deserved to take a?helicopter?to the Staples Center on Monday night. (Divas shouldn?t have sit in rush hour traffic with the common folk, after all.) Hop below to see fan pics from Lady Gaga?s show last night.

Hello again,

I don't want to tear the ceiling out of this room, there is blown-in insulation in the attic. Can I just sheetrock right over the old sheetrock? I don't want to use strapping, I don't want the ceiling any lower than it is.

The Best Guide On How To Be Successful In Internet Marketing

Posted by Heinlein Joseph on Jan 21, 2013 in Internet Marketing |

A collection of tips on how to begin internet marketing, makes the perfect starting point for a beginner to emerge and hopefully begin marketing their own website much smoother. Below is just such a collection that will hopefully assist the eager novice into eventually becoming a pro, when it comes to internet marketing.

Tailor your internet marketing to target your specific audience. Websites such as Google or Facebook will allow you to customize who sees your ads. By tailoring your internet ads to each demographic, you can easily market your products in ways that will grab customers? attention and bring them to your business.

There are many great benefits to internet marketing and that is why you shouldn?t overlook this option. The most important aspect of marketing through the internet is that it has a very large market penetration. This means that it is easily shown to a large number of potential consumers easily.

If you want to get more advertising for your site you can offer visitors a discount for items you are selling in exchange for them placing links to your site on their page. That way they will be motivated enough by the discounts and get you free advertising and you will get more traffic.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, create and utilize a variety of banner ads that are distinctive from one another. You might also consider a rotating banner, which is a tool that periodically cycles through a series of different banners. This is a good option for ad space on your own website or ads placed on others? sites.

If you are short of time, use paid advertising. Investing in paid advertising, such as text links, banners, and pop-up windows, can increase the amount of relevant traffic to your website and subsequently, the number of orders placed. The most popular online advertising company is Google AdWords, and they offer ad campaigns to suit any budget.

Use the word fast in your marketing to get people off their feet and to your order pages. The psychology of marketing is a must now for all internet marketers. Using the word fast in your ad copy excites people. The more excited they are, the more orders you will get.

Because so many people market online nowadays, your job is to be unique. Don?t just have a simple banner with simple text and dull colors. Have something flashy, catchy and unique. Most people online, tune out advertisements simply because they see hundreds of similar ones every day. Make your ad stand out and you?ll likely get a click.

Take advantage of your relationship with other respected online companies and retailers by offering free advertising space. This is an excellent option because it allows your business to benefit from the respectability and favorable reputation of the other party. Furthermore, other advertisers may see that you have partnered with a very credible company and will want to advertise on your site as well.

If you are marketing a product online, trying mixing up your sale phrases. For example, saying they should ?invest in this product? makes the item seem like an investment in their future rather than money they are spending now. You can complement this approach by including testimonials from other customers about how much they?ve earned from your product.

As you can see from this article, marketing online can greatly help your business? bottom line. With an ever growing population of people using the Internet, marketing online becomes more and more important. If you can follow the proper procedures outlined in this article you will be well on your way to marketing and advertising successfully online.

UGA Performing Arts Center presents cellist Patrice Jackson ...

The University of Georgia Performing Arts Center will present award-winning cellist Patrice Jackson-Tilghman on Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall.

A rising star in the world of classical music, Jackson-Tilghman will offer a diverse program that includes works by Beethoven, Schumann, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and George Crumb.

The young cellist is already carving a name for herself as a charismatic and talented performer. The Detroit News has described her as a ?big-toned, boldly projected soloist,? and the Hartford Courant wrote that she ?wowed the audience with effortless facility, playful phrasing and a sense of spontaneity that one hears usually only from the highest caliber of musicians.?

A native of St. Louis, Jackson-Tilghman began piano lessons with her mother at the age of 3 and cello lessons with her father at the age of 8. At 13, she made her debut with the Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra, performing the Elgar Cello Concerto.

In 2002, she was awarded first place in the Senior Laureate Division of the nationally renowned Sphinx Competition, and she was the recipient of the Yale University Aldo Parisot Prize awarded to a ?gifted cellist who shows promise for a concert career.? Since then she has performed with major symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. She also made her international orchestral and recital debuts in South Africa in 2002.
?

59 Per Cent of Consumers Concerned About Security of Business ...

59 Per Cent of Consumers Concerned About Security of Business WebsitesWeb Hosting -?London:? More than half of UK consumers (59 per cent) worry about the risk of their details being compromised each time they input them into a business website, according to research released today by 1&1 Internet Ltd.,www.1and1.com, a global leader amongst web hosts.? From a study of more than 1500 UK adults, 25 per cent have walked away from using or buying from a website due to fears of the level of security.? The degree of consumer understanding of online dangers is high ? 55 per cent of Britons recognise that threats such as malware and viruses change by the hour.?Smaller businesses with a website that uses self-coding or open-source applications will benefit from being able to reassure online consumers that their website is well protected.

Today, more transactions than ever are being conducted over the Internet, requiring consumers to input sensitive information, such as credit card numbers and identifiable data.? 1&1?s ?Website Attitudes Study??(1)?of 1551 UK consumers finds that consumers? concern and expectations for website security are also increasing.? In fact, 1 in 5 of those surveyed have either had their own, or know someone who has, had details lost or taken as a result of using a business website.

Thus, it is perhaps unsurprising that there is an impressive level of consumer awareness nowadays for protecting their data while online.? Some 55 per cent of Britons understand that many websites that capture data (such as contact details or billing data) can be a target for cyber criminals, and 55 per cent recognise that threats can change by the hour.

One in four consumers (26 per cent) believe small businesses are much more of a target for malicious online activity when compared to larger stores.? The concern, while perhaps off the radar of many small companies, is clearly inhibiting many consumers from fully supporting British small businesses.? In fact, only 11 per cent believe SMEs are fully protected online.? Such an understanding clearly impacts consumer behaviour, with 25 per cent having abandoned an online transaction or enquiry because they were worried about the security of their data.?? Some 46 per cent admit they are likely to spend more with a business that shows that it takes steps to enhance website security.

The study also took a measure on what actions consumers would take should their personal data ever be compromised from a business website.? Unsurprisingly, most expect to feel distressed and highly negative about a company as a result.? Some 54 per cent expect to never use that company again, whilst 62 per cent of consumers anticipate sharing their experience with others, 21 per cent willing to report it to the press, and 28 per cent being likely to explore legal action against the business involved.? There is clearly much potential for costly and long lasting damage to a business?s hard-earned revenue and brand reputation.

As the majority of business websites now capture users? data, every business on the Internet needs protection. The use of open-source applications and self-coding can allow much customisation for designs, however, security can be an issue.? While websites built with vendor-managed templates, such as 1&1 MyWebsite, involve very little risk of being compromised by malicious activity, as they leverage a professional system to create, update and protect the design, self-coded websites carry more risk.? Mistakes as simple as forgetting to close parentheses when entering code, or not applying updates to open-source applications can help facilitate malicious activity from hackers.? Thanks to a new service provided by 1&1 together with SiteLock, better protection is now easily available for such self-coded websites.

With the new feature from SiteLock (www.sitelock.com), 1&1 customers can scan their website for design vulnerabilities and stay informed about their online security levels.? 1&1 now provides this security service with?1&1 SiteLock Basic?priced at?0.99/month+VAT, and 1&1 SiteLock Premium priced at ?4.99/month+VAT.? 1&1 SiteLock also comes with a shield icon that is displayed on the business?s website, showing hackers and customers alike that this site is protected.

As a global leader amongst Web hosts, 1&1 is well placed to deliver a high quality service to its customers.? The company currently holds over 11 million customer contracts worldwide and manages 11 million domain names.? For more information about 1&1 as well as the new Sitelock feature visit the website at?www.1and1.com.?

How would you change Nokia's Lumia 610?

How would you change Nokias Lumia 620

A step too far? Perhaps. By iterating its Windows Phone range so much, it's difficult to see why one low-end Lumia is better than the other. The principal nitpick of Nokia's Lumia 610, is that its dwarfed by the similarly-priced yet better-specced 710. But does it do the job as an ultra-budget handset? Well, this is your opportunity to tell us, you never know, maybe some of the folks from Finland are reading what you say, too.

Seafloor observatory monitors Arctic Ocean

A new observatory at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean will help keeps tabs on the delicate environment, relaying information continuously throughout the year for the first time ever, according to a release from Canada's University of Victoria, which runs the station.

The observatory includes an underwater camera, microphone and a device that can measure ice thickness, as well as instruments to measure temperature, salinity and other data that can be used to monitor the health of the environment. There is also an above-ground weather station to track local weather patterns and climate data.

University of Victoria researchers finished installing the observatory's instruments in late 2012 before frigid conditions could halt their progress. It's located in Cambridge Bay, in the Canadian province of Nunavut, north of the Arctic Circle. Information from the observatory can be found online.

The design of the new observatory is based in part on two larger networks of seafloor monitors off the coast of British Columbia's Victoria Island, named VENUS and NEPTUNE. The latter is made up of six different instrument stations that gather data on plate tectonics, hydrothermal vents and deep sea creatures.

The new observatory will "support longer-term, science-based understanding of the dramatic changes taking place in Arctic waters," said Kim Juniper, with NEPTUNE Canada, in a statement from the University of Victoria. "These changes include the historic receding of the northern sea ice and its impact on marine ecosystems."

2 Protips in Doing Email marketing for Lead Generation | Business 2 ...

lead generation, email marketing, business to business leadsIn this day and age where IT and tech become more integrated into how business is done, every marketer should make sure to understand and learn how email marketing works and its use in lead generation. For every B2B company that seeks to find new clients and customers, email marketing should become one of their major methods of lead generation.

The thing is, as said above, every marketer should learn how to use it as part of their company?s marketing tactics. Email marketing isn?t exactly the same as B2B telemarketing; it?s not even similar to direct mail marketing. And why is that? That?s because email marketing makes heavy use of the Internet in order to get your messages where they should be ? your prospects? inboxes.

Unfortunately, we cannot teach you how to be effective at performing email marketing to generate more B2B sales leads(that?s going to take one big PDF to do). We can, however, provide you with some helpful tips on doing marketing via the wonderful method of email.

Protip 1: Email marketing has its limits.

Many marketers believe that the key to getting prospects to convert into leads is continuous engagement with them. Well, such is true and does work? but that usually only occurs when you are dealing with interested prospects. When you are trying to nurture prospects that show a visible interest in what you are offer, then engaging with them continuously and on higher levels will most likely yield good results.

That is not always the case when you do email marketing though. Some prospects are quick to just delete your marketing emails from their inboxes; some of your messages may even just go directly into their spam folder. Also, repeatedly sending the same content to prospects that do not respond will just put you on the road to annoying them and asking to be taken off of your mailing list. Make sure to keep in mind that email marketing has its limits.

Protip 2: Keep emails short and simple.

Generating business to business leads through the use of emails means that you have to structure your messages and tailor them according to the preferences of your prospects. Unfortunately, marketers cannot spend time and create unique emails for each and every recipient they have in their mailing list. As such, to achieve good results in lead generation through email marketing, marketers would need to learn to create effective and powerful messages that get their points across all the while making sure that they meet what their prospects deem as an effective (and tolerable) email.

To achieve this, marketers must adhere to the KISS principle ? keep it short and simple ? when marketing through email. Marketers should learn to keep their email messages short with a length that prospects will not see as too long to read as well as with a simple thought and direct to the point message that doesn?t unnecessarily beat around the bush.

Email marketing is a fast and cost-effective method of getting your messages across to your prospects. The key to succeeding in doing it is to make sure that you know its limits and are able to create messages that your prospects will want to read as well as pack your thoughts into a simple and short headline as well as in its content.

In Indian student's gang rape, murder, two worlds collide

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - One of hundreds of attacks reported in New Delhi each year, the brutal gang rape and murder of a young medical student in a private bus this month caught authorities and political parties flat-footed, slow to appreciate it had become symbolic of all the others.

In the moments before the December 16 attack, the 23-year-old woman from India's urban middle class, who had recently qualified as a trainee physiotherapist in a private Delhi hospital, and her male friend, a software engineer, were walking home from a cinema at a shopping mall in south Delhi, according to a police reconstruction of events.

A bus, part of a fleet of privately owned vehicles used as public transport across the city of 16 million, and known as India's "rape capital", was at the same time heading toward them. Earlier that day, it had ferried school students but was now empty except for five men and a teenage boy, including its crew, police said. Most of the men were from the city's slums.

One of the six - all now charged with murder - lured the couple onto the bus, promising to drop the woman home, police have said, quoting from an initial statement that she gave from her hospital bed before her condition deteriorated rapidly.

A few minutes into the ride, her friend, 28, grew suspicious when the bus deviated from the supposed route and the men locked the door, according to her statement. They then taunted her for being out with a man late at night, prompting the friend to intervene and provoking an initial scuffle.

The attackers then beat him with a metal rod, knocking him unconscious, before turning on the woman who had tried to come to his defense. Police say the men admitted after their arrest to torturing and raping the student "to teach her a lesson".

At one point, the bus driver gave the wheel to another of the accused and dragged the woman by the neck to the back of the vehicle and forced himself upon her. The other five then took turns raping her and also driving the bus, keeping it circling through the busy streets of India's capital city, police said.

The woman was raped for nearly an hour before the men pushed a metal rod inside her, severely damaging her internal organs, and then dumped both her and her friend on the roadside, 8 km (5 miles) from where they had boarded it, police said.

Robbed of their clothes and belongings, they were found half naked, bleeding and unconscious later that night by a passerby, who alerted the police.

FAMILY ROLE MODEL

The woman, whose identity has been withheld by police, gave her statement to a sub-divisional magistrate on December 21 in the intensive care unit of Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, according to local media reports. She was undergoing multiple surgical procedures and her condition later began to rapidly worsen.

Ten days after the attack and still in a critical condition, she was flown to Singapore for specialist treatment. She died in Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital two days later. Her body was flown back to Delhi and cremated there on Sunday in a private ceremony.

Family members who had accompanied her to Singapore declined to speak to reporters, but relatives told the Times of India newspaper she had been a role model to her two younger brothers.

Unlike most traditional Indian families who only send their sons to fee-paying colleges or universities, her parents pinned their hopes on the daughter and took loans to fund her studies.

She was born and brought up in a middle class Delhi neighborhood after her family moved to the city more than 20 years ago from India's northern Uttar Pradesh state.

Her male friend recorded his statement to a local court days after the attack and helped police identify the six accused. He left for his hometown in Uttar Pradesh late on Saturday, missing the woman's funeral, local media reported.

SHAME, ANGER IN SLUM

Four of the accused, all in custody, live in the narrow by-lanes of Ravi Das Camp, a slum about 17 km (11 miles) from the woman's home in southwest Delhi. Inside the slum - home to some 1,200 people who eke out a meager living as rickshaw pullers and tea hawkers - many demanded the death penalty for the accused.

"The incident has really shocked all of us. I don't know how I will get my children admitted to a school. The incident has earned a bad name to this place," said Pooja Kumari, a neighbor of one of the accused.

Girija Shankar, a student, said: "Our heads hang in shame because of the brutal act of these men. They must reap what they have sown."

The house of one of the accused was locked, with neighbors saying his family had left the city to escape the shame and anger. Meena, a 45-year-old neighbor, said she had wanted to join the protests that followed the rape, but was too scared.

"You never know when a mob may attack this slum and attack our houses. But we want to say we're as angry as the entire nation. We want them to be hanged," she said.

Two of the six alleged assailants come from outside Delhi, according to police. One is married with children and was arrested in his native village in Bihar state and the other, a juvenile, is a runaway from a broken home in Uttar Pradesh.

In India, murder is punishable by death by hanging, except in the case of offenders aged below 18.
