Ann Coulter's GOP plan needs work | Midwest Voices

Midwest Voices contributing columnist: Bob Friskel

The Kansas City Star

Ann Coulter was a speaker at a meeting of conservatives Friday and unveiled her plan to solve one of the main concerns of Republicans: what to call the bulk of those people whose occupation is writing or speaking about?politics.

The plan: Call them the NFM. That stands for Non Fox Media. It may stick. We will know over?time.

But it is only the latest action by Republicans to replace MSM. That stands for Mainstream Media. Republicans used MSM for years, until they began to realize: That?s a compliment! Now MSN is not used by any Republican (myself included). If you hear it used, you know a Democrat is?speaking.

With MSM out of use, Republicans have been trying, and failing, to come up with a suitably accurate and insulting replacement. Drive-bys, the state-controlled media, the left wing media and many other are being tried but are not generally accepted. I personally prefer ?Those Dirty Rats,? but it seems to be losing traction. NFM is a nice try, but I doubt if it will make the cut. Some Republicans, including those employed at The Wall Street Journal and National Review, don?t like?it.

At least Coulter and the other conservatives took a step forward by addressing the issue and thus underlining its urgency. They have made it clear that the best minds of the GOP must come together by convention time and agree on the one phrase that will be a staple of every speech of every Republican in the?campaign.
