Etiquette Coach Trying to Erase Bad Habits

PEORIA - Do you feel like there are just a lot of rude people out there these days?

If you answered yes, you're not alone.? In fact, one woman thinks rudeness is happening so much she's now making it her business to bring class back to the masses.

"The car has replaced the table. And people are busy. Children are off to soccer games. Baseball and just so many things. We have such busy lives that we forget to sit down and take time to teach the basics in life," said etiquette expert Elizabeth Graichen.

"It just saddens me to see that we lack so much class and panache. We can do better," she said.

Graichen's job is to make people mind their manners.? She's an etiquette coach with a lot to share.

Her tips include the proper way to propose toast, and did you know the glasses should not touch?

"You might have 100 year old crystal and you cling a little too hard and you're going to break somebody's crystal. They you're gonna feel really bad," she said.

There's even proper etiquette for simple things like lemon in your drink.

Graichen said etiquette has been on its way out for several generations.? So she said it's important to cut those people who lack it some slack.

"They get very irritated with people very easily. We just don't give people the benefit of the doubt," she said.

She said courtesy and manner makeovers are life lessons that take some time to catch on.

But she said she's confident people still have it in them to put an emphasis on etiquette.

"My passion is to make Peoria polite. One plate at a time. One person at a time," she said.
